Battery status in header bar

Peter Stahl shared this idea 6 years ago
Completed

I love & need battery status in the top panel. But because it gives also the date with full month spelling (e.g. February instead 02) the battery percentage is only visible if I reduce the number of function buttons in the header panel to 3 :-(

So my suggestion is to put battery percentage first, then put time, and use numbers for the month or remove the day completely (who needs that?)

You can make it with Dashboard.

Hello Peter,

Not a big deal, so changed. Agree that date is not necessary and after short discussion we decided to remove battery temperature as well (who needs it, may use an dashboard).

Thanks for an idea.

Good day

The date info has come back in the latest version, and the battery percentage/temperature are not visible (depend on the number top panel's buttons)

No one will be ever satisfied. Suggest to reduce the number of items in the top panel.

May be i missed some comments, but nobody regretted about the lack of a Date and Month info.

I did

May I know why you have asked to bring the date back and why do you need date?

photo

Because I find geocaches and in every geocache I have to write down the current date.

Make sense. But I want to add that you need to see the date only once in a while whereas checking battery status and time is an ongoing need for users. Anyway, my newest suggestion does not interference with your need. It would be possible.

No, I don't check battery status and time in Locus Map because that is shown clearly in the top status bar in Android.

Edit: And I don't complain about it showing up in Locus Map either. I know there is different needs and some users need this and other need that. It's like this with all software. There is always some functionality missing or not used.

Menion, you are absolutely right. Never will be everyone satisfied. But who will not be satisfied if he cannot read what day we have?

Is it really that someone missed the month info??? If I am on a bike, hike or whatever I want to know how much battery is left and not what day we have. Who needs that?!? I think you agreed. But what changed your mind?

Anyway... I will not complain. Leave it as it is. But please, please, please add another option: ONLY battery status. Can I ask you for this as a small reward to me as a long time user (I think almost ten years) and because a number of people installed Locus und bought the Pro Version as I advised them. Please!

Btw: I hate loosing space (when reducing the number of icons in the bar) or putting infos on the map space through dashboard

Good day Peter,

oki :), let's try additional parameter "map_top_toolbar_show_date_time" in config.cfg file in next version.

Sorry for bringing this topic again up... I am satisfied with your cripple solution by editing the cfg and disabeling date/time. Btw, THANK YOU for adding this to the cfg!

But two friends complained that they also want to see the BATTERY PERCENTAGE and TIME. But because of DATE (We all agreed that for sure none need to see the date while navigating) only TIME and DATE is visible but not BATTERY PERCENTAGE.

My suggestion is to display by default only time but not date. And that those few guys who might want to see the date can set the date visible in the cfg.

What do you think?

This is all copied from this thread:

Why not start with getting some facts on the table? (roll eyes)

Why has this started as a discussion at all? Why is it so important to remove information which is used by some?

Why isn't it a discussion about adding the 9th option in this field? And if something has to be removed because there is only room for 8 entries in this list for what is possible to show here, why not remove the Title with the static text "Locus Map Pro"? Why isn't it any question about who use that?

@SV Hovland What do you want to say with that post? That it is not true when I say that no one needs to see the date while navigating because you did regret when Menion kicked out the date? Well, you need the date when you've found a geocache. That is not 'while navigating', but only once in a while. Why do you not just swipe android headerbar down to see the date? You might reply to me that I could do the same to see battery status and time - but I can't do that reguarly while driving on my dirtbike with gloves on.

But hey, I do not want to argue with you. I do respect your need or the way how you like to have it! Let's work together to find a solution that fits all!

I do suggest that we can enable/disable date (only 'date' or 'date & time') in the config. The question is just: What will be the default? I guess you would like to have date & time, I and my motorbike friends would like to see only time. Let's ask into the round:

Who needs to see the date in the top panel bar?

Hello,

funny how sometimes most simple problems are complicated to solve and satisfy all :).

Quick solution: I'll switch to next version top and bottom line. So battery & temperature will be on the top line, time & date on the second line.

Well, that is true, but it helps only if I can turn temperature in the config on/off. Otherwise the temperature would just jump into second row when I display five icons in the headerbar and then time would not be visible.

Hello all together, for my needs (biking and hiking) the possibility to hide temperatur and date in order to have battery and time visible, would be great! My suggestion would be to switch lines as you said, but also turn off temperature by default in the config.

Thanks @Menion for your great work!

edit: Oh, Locus has just been updated and you switched rows. But still it's true what I`'ve stated below.

Dear Menion,

what is finally your plan for upcomming version? Your plan to switch rows doesn't help in all cases. Time will not be visible in many cases.

After all discussion I would pled for this solution:

Leave everything as it is but implement two options in the config:

- enable/disable date (so that time is still displayed)

- enable/disable temperature

Set as default whatever you think is suitable for most people.

Good day Peter,

I consider this topic as unsolvable, so the change I mentioned above is final: switched lines, nothing more.

If users want to use this panel, it is necessary to keep in mind that the panel needs it's "space". So simply, place one more button from top to right part of functions panel and life is nice.

Ok, I was just hoping you'd add the show/hide function in the config file. Still wonderding how to bribe you ;-)
