Calory view / calories counter

It would be nice, if Locus could show me burned calories (in kcal or kJ) in the dashboard and in the detail-view of a recored track.

All the main data is actually known:

  • Locus knows: length, altitude, speed, ...
  • I know: my age, my weight, ...

I know, that the calculation of burned calories is a little bit complicated and depends of a lot of parameters, but by using the upper data, it would be a first step... smiley

There are more ideas about statistics, calories are one of these for sure.

I would suggest in addition, that in settings GUI should be a section 'personal data' where you can put in your weight and the weight of an additional person and the average speed of each kind of movement (mountainbiking, road biking, hiking, a.s.o) The average speed can be assigned to each group or folder in track manager.

But calories are important. Thats why i will support this.

3-4 people I know are very interested in this feature.

They started using Locus Free but switched to other apps as they needed to know the calories they burned.

This would pull them back to the good side :)

Hi,

It would be nice to have calories displayed for hiking. One solution can be seen on http://www.schoeneres-wandern.de/html/rechner.html

The calories has to be simply calculated by the following formulas:

Basal Metabolic Rate by the revised Bendict Equation (BMR)

+ power dissipation (PD)

Calories = BMR x (Walk time in hours) / 24 + PD

PD = (0.1333 x (Track-length in m) + 2 x (ascent in m) ) x 0.00483 x (weight in kg)

This is taken from the above web site

For Men:

BMR = 88.362 + (13.397 x weight in kg) + (4.799 x height in cm) - (5.677 x age in years)

For Woman:

BMR = 447.593 + (9.247 x weight in kg) + (3.098 x height in cm) - (4.330 x age in years)

The PD is for low mountain hiking (Mittelgebirgswandern) according to Prof. Burtscher (sorry no links found)

PD should be modified for biking, but I don't now how.

I think these values are an approximation and should be taken only as an indication.

Hello Thomas, guys,

I'm glad to announce, that

fresh new 3.17.2.3 Beta version has full support for compute of calories for recorded activities, together with all that is needed for this task - definition of your parameters (age, height, weight, sex) and definition of activity type you did during recording. Feedback is welcome. By my own tests, all seems to be working well and also quite precisely, mainly if Heart rate values are known!

You are welcome Christian.

And here is someone who do not know where to get Beta version for testing?? Read here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:about:free_beta_testing
