Could you support an open, very famous and detail rich map service from Brazil called Tracksource? http://www.tracksource.org.br/

This service is a community based service with constant updates. Sometimes their maps are the only one that work on remote places and at the countryside.

Their maps are the most famous maps for GPS lovers in Brazil. With the upcomming world cup this could be a good addition to Locus Pro.

Their download direct page is here: http://www.tracksource.org.br/index.p...

Tracksource distributes their data in garmin *.img format. Locus is able to read *.img files but this format is not fully supported at this moment. I’ve tried use one of their img file in Locus but I have to say that there are some issues that we didn’t solved yet. So img file from Tracksource does not work in Locus properly.

However I’d like to contact the administrator of this page to get more information about their data. Maybe we could to use their data in different format. Unfortunately I’m not able to find any contact form or email address. Can you help with portuguese, please?

I was not accepted in the group.. :-S ...Got this reply: "Your

subscription to Tracksource was not approved.". They seem to be not very

social. Although their map have good detail, sometimes greater than

Street Map, especially on remote regions.

If it is hard to support the way they package their file, forget about them.

Thank you.

Hello I just tested Tracksource on Locus. I've been waiting for that since 2011 when I tried to convert Garmin maps to OSM without success.

It's almost working fine. It would be perfect if the POI icons where a bit larger and it could display POI labels above them.

What library are you guys using to display Garmin maps?

Maybe I can make some themes or customization, just like Mapsforge xml files.

Thanks in advance, and by the way, Locus is great!

Hello Jonathan,

support of the Garmin *.img maps is quite complicated in Locus. More about it is written in following topic: http://help.locusmap.eu/responses/garmin_on_locus

Basically *.img maps are not still officially supported. Locus is not able to use Garmin theme files, some elements are not rendered properly and honestly it has lower priority for us then other issues. We're not planning to improve *.img maps in next moths

Thank you for understanding.

Thanks Petr.

As a workaround, I used Mapdekode to open the .img and export all the POIs to a .wpt Ozi Explorer format file and then converted it to .gpx with Trackmaker. Then I imported the .gpx in Locus and voilá, all my POIs with much better information. It was Amazing that the icons where preserved, as Locus has a Garmin icons available.

In my case I did a small script in PHP (attached) to rename all points to match the name of the place that was in the description, but that's optional. The script is working on Mac, but should work fine on Linux or even Windows.
