Yes, I would also love to see geocaches from opencaching on a live map.

Menion, I know you were now working on Travelbugs and Geokrets, so maybe this is also a good moment to request the support for Opencaching. I know it is not popular in .CZ but its the main geocaching site in .PL. And also there are .DE and other countries versions. I presume, they have similar APIs, so You can make support for all of them in one shot. Many ppl would be really pleased to see the full native Locus support for Opencaching. Now, to use it, I need to use external app, which is not too convenient. So please, consider that.

There is also at least one topic on GetSatisfaction about that idea:

OpenCaching (.pl) API - http://opencaching.pl/okapi/introduct...

When GC.com API is closed when not premium, OC (pl, de cz, etc) are always free. OC.pl is main geocaching site in PL, we have some tools to import caches to Locus, but alwals better are implemented functions.

I also support this issue.

Opencaching should be included into Locus.

Same here. It would be very appreciated, if opencaching could be supported by Locus!

This idea is "under consideration", which is better than "rejected"... Still hope for us... ;-)

I see two major tasks to support opencaching platforms:

  1. Support all opencaching-specific cache types and attributes.
There are some cache types (like "moving caches" and some attributes which are currently not supported by Locus. When importing opencaching caches, these cache types/attributes are ignored ore mapped incorrectly.
  2. Support opencaching API (OKAPI) to search/import/refresh/log caches from opencaching platforms.

Realizing step 1 would be a big step forward. If needed, I could provide a list of cache types and attributes which need to be added...

Step 2: maybe someone can write an addon with OKAPI support? opencaching4locus, like Arcao's geocaching4locus?

As additional point, OKAPI seems to be very much same for ALL Opencaching sites.

+1 from my side. Definitely opencaching.pl would be useful, now also using Locus for both, but with opencaching I need to manually import all caches which works fine but still having it automated and biult in Locus would be great

Would like to push this idea up.

It wound be nice to more than one Geocaching platform available. Best with the posibility of separate fieldnotes and found counts.

Hi guys,

I'm watching this idea since the beginning. I really hoped that some fully working alternative to Geocaching will be born but based on public discussions and also as I see in Google Trends here, seems that OpenCaching, except for a few users in Poland, seems to be close to death, right?

So if there is no one who convinces me about the opposite, I'll decline this idea. This anyway does not affect the usage of open-caching caches in the app over any add-on (not sure if exists) or over GPX files.

Thanks for understanding.

Opencaching in Poland seems to be close to death? I don't know from where you have got these incorrect data. We evolved our fun, added geopaths. We still have a lot of active user.

To sum up, Opencaching in Poland is doing very well and absolutely doesn't die.

Well, yes, it is a smaller community for sure, but you should remember that Google Trends for opencahcing might be lower because a lot of time term "geocachhing" is used to access it. On top of that, community is really active for example on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/120841861321681 which shows that people are indeed active.

On top of that, OC.PL has ~86k active geocaches, OC.DE has ~25k active. Even if we chop 10% out for being "active but dead" this is still 100k geocaches that are tracked there, which is around 10% of geocaching.com ones. Given that OC.PL is also an Android-heavy user base, that means that Locus would be capturing some market there.

So no, Opencaching isn't close to death, it's still a very much alive but small community.

Hi guys,

It was only my assumption based on a few quick internet checks. Thanks for lettings me know, I was wrong! This is good news.

Anyway, this does not change my opinion on adding direct support for open-caching into Locus Map. I'll gladly help any active developer who will try to create an add-on for this.

Is there anything the app may do better with the current system, so with data imported from GPX files?

Hi, Im registered user of opencaching.pl since 2011 and from few years i was using locus pro as my primary cache app but in 1st of January 2022 something bad happened that i cannot load any cache straight via designated additional application (awaryjniejszy gpx) but have to do it manualy and it takes much more time and is little bit inconvinient. I will not stop using locus cos the app is great and helping me not only for geocaching, but it would be nice to have full support for the platform that have more than 18000 active users and more then 86000 active caches. Few of my geo friends were also dissapoited when the import problem occured and started to use alternate apps but as far as i know if the locus could make full support of opencaching.pl they prefer to use it instead of the other ones.

Hi, I was a bit dismayed to read about the possible lack of support for the Locus application. I must admit that I have been its user since the beginning of my logging in to the opencaching.pl website. Many of my friends also use it to find the caches and I can't imagine switching to another application. There is everything I need here and it is a very important part or even an inseparable part of our fun for us. Remember that there are many of us and this is very important to us. Greetings from sunny Poland ;)

There are many users who are registered but no longer use it. I also used it in the beginning and I am still registered. But I noticed that most caches are only at Geocaching.com. Then I stopped using it. I think here use it only very few.

We are alive and interested. Greetings from Poland.

It is an open source site after all. Write there in the forum. There is certainly someone who writes an app as an addon for Locus.
