Hello,

is it possible to import to Locus this maps?:

Or maybe you know another maps of Svalbard?

Thank you.

Quite big data sets. Do you happen to know which format these maps are coded into ?

My network is too "narrow" to just download and look myself.

Locus does support quite a number of formats - and there are converters, too. But all starts with above question.

Thank you for answer.

There are 3 folders with a lot of JPEG2000 files, folders with SHP files and folder with SOS files and this info:

Transferring S100 Raster to a unit

S100 Raster tiles can be used directly in GIS systems on computers, or through e.g. the app Geoviewer from Lizardtech for tablets and smartphones.

After download and unzipping to a computer, the maps can be transferred to desired folder on an Android unit e.g. through an USB cable. For iOS units, using e.g. the web service Dropbox as a channel from the computer to the unit can be applied. When the maps are stored on the unit, the desired tiles can be added to Geoviewer from the app menus.

The maps are kept up-to-date with the production of new map data in the S100 database. Parts of the map data are of older origin and not suited for navigation.

As far as I see, Locus has two fundamental ways to deal with 3rd party maps:

1) online access via a web service (in broader sense)

2) support of a huge number of formats for map offline files (see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external

#1 requires that npolar would have and would allow access to their web service - you'd need to dig there first - and then see if Menion would do the effort to support in Locus

re. #2: I meanwhile had a look at some file in the 350 MB package. 10000 x 10000 tiles. Not exactly the format Locus uses. But with some tools and scripting you could "massage" the data set into something that Locus would consider one of the formats in its support list. A combination of ImageMagick and MOBAC plus scripting would definitely work to produce a SQLITEDB that Locus does understand.

So far my 2c.

Cheers

Michael

There is WMS service available...

Svalbard is a protected zone, always ask locals/sysselmannen for permissions.

Thank you.

I`m just start using Locus but WMS service is only online working?

Have to ask for using maps? :)

WMS server maps is only online-use as far as i know.

You dont have to ask permisson to use public wms-servers.

What type of map do you need, and do you plan a trip? Just curious :-)

Ohhhh...about hiking? Sorry :) Didn`t understood because I was asking only about maps. But thank you for advice. I will not go out 10 area so permissions isn`t needed. Only for renting rifle against polar bears.

I know you want best possible map, but have you tried LoMap with map shading activated?

Yes, I bought this LoMap. It is not bad. Map from Norwegian Polar Institute I installed on GeoViewer app. Of course it would be better with Locus but works fine also.

Hi Marcin,

as Michael wrote - implementing these maps in Locus would require a lot of scripting, I'm not sure if MOBAC can handle such data - try to convert them. WMS maps work only online. In Locus Store, Svalbard is available only in LoMaps - vector maps rendered from OSM data which are almost empty in this location. So, I'm afraid there's not much help from us in this issue :)
