KMZ files to large

Hi,

I have recently been trying to add KMZ files into Locus using "MapItems". Every file no matter what size comes back with an error saying they exceed the size limit of 22.5Mb. None of them are over that limit. Anyone have a solution?

Thanks, Adam

Good day Adam,

you copied file into Locus/mapItems directory and you try to open it in Locus over Map manager screen, right?

If this does not work, may you please share with me here one of your problematic files, so I may test on own device where is a problem? Thank you

Hi Menion,

I think I have found the issue.

I was exporting the files from ArcMap. When doing this, I was exporting them using the "Layer to KML" tool. These files opened fine in Google Earth, however, would not open in Locus. I have now tried the "Map to KML" tool in Arc and that works fine. I think I need to further test this to confirm this was the problem, but it seems that way. I have attached one of the original "problem" files for you to test.

This was on an Android Samsung tablet A? (not exactly sure of the exacted name), I don't have it with me right now for ref.

Thanks, Adam

Good day Adam,

I'm looking on your file ( thanks for sharing btw. ) and inner KML file is more then 100 MB big. My Google Earth on desktop computer grew from 280 MB to almost 700 MB. It is really impossible to load such huge file in current Locus Map system, sorry.

So I really suggest to split this huge area into more smaller pieces. Or you may give a try to Locus GIS, where you should be able to import and display a log bigger SHP files at once.

Thanks for understanding.

EDIT: I've just tried to import this file into internal Locus Map database and it seems to work. All 22621 lines imported and in the end displayed all at once on the map. Result is super slow application :). Anyway if you display just nearest part of them, it should not be so bad. Good luck

Thanks for the help, Menion.

How do you check the "inner file size"?

Cheers, Adam

You are welcome.

Inner size .. you may simply change extension of KMZ file into ZIP and extract it. Then you get plain text KML file, that has 100+ MB. And this file needs to be loaded into memory. And it's really too much on current Locus Map system, sorry.
