Locus fails loading RMAP files

Adam Sędziwy shared this problem 8 years ago
Closed

...and reports the error: Invalid data, try to allocate 1727609460 zooms [in both cases the same number stands here]

The maps causing the error may be found in the attachment. Note that it happens with other RMAPs (but not all) as well.

REMARK: Before opening change the file's extension from doc to rmap (I had to change it due to the upload problems)

Good day Adam,

as I know, RMap format is still not yet officially and documented. It is a private format of CompeGPS application and situation is probably same even after years. Because of this, it's specification isn't well known. Some maps in RMap format works in Locus, some not. All is thanks to some publicly available code I've used and also thanks to many tries I did to make these maps working. In this case, I'm unfortunately unable to find our correct meaning and sequence of numbers in this format.

How did you created your maps, was it thanks to some open source application? And are you able to convert your maps into different format usable by Locus? Because otherwise I'll have to forward to use these maps with application that is able to read it, like mentioned CompeGPS that should work correctly.

Dear Menion,

Those maps weren't created by me but bought in some e-shop as TwoNav compatibile maps.

Since I found Locus to be much more user friendly than TwoNav and appearing to be RMap capable, I decided to use it.

As you suggested: I'll try to convert Rmap to some other format. Could you recommend some converting tool?

are you able to share this map?

Hmm hard to say what to do with it as I'm not much experienced with some map conversions. gynta, any idea? Mapc2mapc won't probably help here because of this protected format right?

Hmm, I was guided somewhere to choose for Locus the target format RMaps SQLite in MOBAC.

Was itbad advice? I noticed some of these maps trigerred troubles for Locus to load them, while others work fine....

Hello Libor, be aware that Rmaps SQLite and here discussed RMap format are completely different formats!!

RMap format is problematic.

SQLite format (sometimes incorrectly called RMaps) should cause no troubles as this is native format that Locus use for all online and all downloaded offline maps!

Hi Libor

unzip

https://www.dropbox.com/s/qcw62zv9p38exrv/maps.zip?dl=0

copy maps to locus/maps

and check if you like it ;-))

Yeah, bingo, balloni55! Issue solved. Tell me now, how did you convert RMAP to sqlitedb format (I got a couple of other RMAP files which remain unusable for me :/)?

Hi Adam,

attached you find one of your maps as .RMAP working in locus

- to get sqlite map, you use on PC "Ozimaptrans" and "mapc2mapc"

http://www.the-thorns.org.uk/mapping/

- to get locus working RMAP, you use on PC "Ozimaptrans" and "CompeGPSLand"

http://www.twonav.com/de/software/land

If you need further info please contact me by mail .

Does it mean the used sqlitedb format differs from ( RMaps ) SQlite native Locus format ?

I have noticed the Romanian sand Polish/Slovak regions.

What is the map spurce it seems familiar to me. I used MOBAC a lot in past for Trekbuddy on Symbian.

Aside of OpenAndromaps, I use a lot MTB europe, map1.eu and CZ Geoportal ZM - old military maps.

I use MOBAC where the download or caching is not easy in Locus.

Not sure I understand your question. SQLite format used in Locus and

format used in old RMaps application (sometimes called RMaps SQLite) are

the same.

Well, this I understood even from your first reply. :-)

My last reply was aimed to @Balloni55 who provided me links to 2 sqlitedb files. I was not sure what was their relation to RMAP format topic and my previous RMAP versus RMaps-Locus DQlitedb confusion.

Now I see - I missed it or it was added later - the note "UUps this thread was started by Adam, so answer was for Adam". I was previously explicitly named, so I got very confused. :-D

back to topic:

@Menion.

Locus should give a better error description for non readable (or locked) RMaps

- or this topic is "Unsolvable"

@Wolfgang thx - you are faster :)

I'm not sure if we should give support to convert and share locked maps here on Locus helpdesk because this is maybe a copyright or a "terms of use" thing.

This map seems not to be locked. Just an internal structure is unknown to me and I was unable to read correctly it's content.

Anyway good point with description, I'll try to improve it, thanks.

Hello guys,

unfortunately I'm closing this topic for now. Till there will be some public documentation for RMap format (and this probably never happen), I'm unable to solve this issue, sorry.
