Locus maps isn't responding - report/wait/ok

Piers Robinette shared this problem 6 years ago

I'm a new user of Locus maps for road cycling and have been navigating routes of 20-30 miles. So far I've only been using audio directions with the phone (android) in a pocket but yesterday I tried using the visual directions and kept on getting the error/warning i've put in the topic title and I stop getting visual directions. Audio directions continue to work fine. If I unlock the phone manually and open up Locus it will show my route and location and for a short time give me visual directions and then message occurs again. This situation may have been occurring ever since I started using Locus pro, but i've not noticed because I've only been using audio directions.

thank you, in anticipation, for your help.

Good day Piers,

I'm sorry to hear about such troubles. Unfortunately ANR issues (application not responding) are one of worst to solve.

I'm really surprised that something like this happen to you. In some cases, this may be because app do some more work on background and block "main thread". If you wait a little longer (or press "wait"), app starts to work correctly?

Also maybe you have really a lot of points, tracks, map overlays, wms maps enabled at once? It is possible?

Menion, thank you for getting back to me. I don't know what counts as "a lot of points...", but I shouldn't think I've hit that as I only have the UK lomap loaded with the cycle routes overlay, and one track at a time (I'm still learning how to use Locus). I'm creating road routes of about 30 miles and these can have 80-100 points. To be honest I've not been able to pick up a consistent pattern of the effect of wait/ok as I have to dig the phone out of it's bag (it's not got a touch-sensitive cover). I have noticed that as I scroll around I can see patches of the map flagged as waiting to load.

Good day Piers,

80-100 points definitely is not a problem, by "a lot of" I mean at least more then 1000+.

Hmm and what about if you tap on "wait" button? Did it start working? Damn these rare issues are really really hard to solve. In most cases, best is if I may simulate same problem on own device, here it is not possible.

I'm really sorry, but best here is to experiment little bit. Try different map, disable overlay etc. Btw. "loading" instead of map tiles is also not a problem. Problem is when app is stuck as happen to you. This "wait" dialog appear only when app is not responding for more then 5 seconds, which should never happen. Sorry to write this ...

Menion, I'm going to have to go away and experiment and see if I can narrow things down a little. This might take a week or two as it is only at weekends that I get a chance to go out on longer cycles.

Hello,

if there will be something I may help with, please write me. Maybe you will be able to simulate and test this issue also at home when you will have some free time. Sorry I cannot help more here. When I'll have any idea, I'll write you here.
