Locus v3.10.3 crashes after a fresh install on Android 5.0.2

David Harrison shared this problem 8 years ago
Not a Problem

I've just got an EE Harrier mobile running Android 5.0.2 and installed Locus v3.10.3.

It ran the initial download after a fresh install, then immediately crashed. Trying to restart the app, it crashes every time immediately, not even giving me chance to read the error message. I've managed to read it and it is:

"OOOPS!

Problem with data (points/tracks) files"

I rebooted the mobile - same issue.

I've un-installed it, rebooted the mobile, installed again and have the same issue.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Thank you

David

Hello David,

I'm sorry for troubles. Would please able to create debug log for use? How to: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log

Please follow steps bellow:

- check that developer options are available in android settings (see the mentioned manual page)

- uninstall Locus app

- remove any folder Locus from your internal memory or from sdcard

- install Locus app again > start it > wait for error message

- finally take bug report via developer options in android settings

Please send me the log for, we'll check it.

Thank you for your help

Petr

Any chance this is the same 64bit problem as the new 64bit phone Sony Xperia M4 Aqua here? : http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/free-version-crashes-on-xperia-m4-aqua-dual

OK, found it: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/ee-harrier-1292282/review/3

--> 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm 615

That is the same new 64bit CPU as in the M4 Aqua. So the same issue I reckon. And the same solution: wait for new Android ROM...

I expect this issue to pop up more and more with the release of new 64bit phones, so:

maybe it is an idea to build in a start-up test into Locus to check for this issue and exit nicely with a clear message to the user that this is happening. Just thinking aloud.

Issue with 64-bit libraries is not because Locus do not support 64-bit devices. It was (in case of Nexus 9 or Sony Xpearia Aqua) caused by an issue in Android itself.

Indeed, I know, as we discussed before.

But I warned that more new devices (64bit, faulty Android5) will pop up that show this problem. And this topic proves that with this new phone 'EE Harrier'. So we can wait for the next new phone to show up with a Qualcomm 615 64bit CPU and crappy Android to crash Locus on startup. Therefore my idea to check and show the user.

Hi Petr,

Sorry not responded back till now but been out.

It seems reading the whole thread that you have identified a bug

in Android 5 with 64-bit CPU that is causing the issue.

Do you wish me still to send you the debug log?

Regards,

David

Hi David,

well you're the first one with this device. Please create the log file. We want to be sure that you're facing the same issue as other users with Xperia Aqua.

Thank you

Hi Petr,

I did a fresh install after cleaning up the old install, making

sure I had developer access to generate the Track bug report.

I let Locus crash and then went to developer and hit Track bug

report, the box came up warning it may take a while, I hit OK. I'm

not very familiar with Android but after 2 hours, what is supposed

to happen, as there's been no message to say the report is done?

Regards,

David

Hello David,

would you please check this topic with the same issue: http://androidforums.com/threads/make-bug-report-not-working.747915/

Thanks

Morning Petr,

I have checked all the 'tray' icons and know what they all are,

thus still don't know if the bug report finished or where to find

it.

I'll re-run it again now and keep an eye on the mobile for any

brief notification.

Regards,

David

Hi Petr,

1) Cleaned out the old Locus for a fresh install.

2) Made sure developer access was still on, "USB debugging" box

checked so "Track bug report" was available.

3) In developer, I checked the box "Stay awake" while charging, so

mobile didn't go to sleep.

4) In developer I increased "Logger buffer sizes" from 256K to 16M

(max.)

5) rebooted mobile

6) Installed Locus

7) Ran Locus, which after download and going through Basic

Settings (I didn't change anything), crashed

8) Went into developer and ran "Track bug report" and hit report

after warning message that it might take a while.

9) Now over an hour later, still nothing. No message or new icon

in the 'tray'.

Am I doing something wrong?

Regards,

David

Hello David,

I admire your effort to take bug report. Please the last request from my side: would you please try to create report using DDMS software. This is universal solution for creating the logs. How to do it is described in the last section of http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:how_to_create_debug_log#general_solution_for_all_android_versions

Thank you for your help!

Hi Petr,

I wondered if this was the next stage, having noticed this monitor

when you have sent me links.

1) Downloaded and unzipped.

2) Plugged in mobile to PC on USB

3) Started the "start monitor.bat" file - got a warning about

unknown app but let it run

4) Android Bug Monitor ran but no Devices listed!

5) Harrier was showing in Windows Explorer

I did have "USB debugging" checked in developer options.

What now or is it time to just give up!?

Regards,

David

There it'll be some issue with drivers or with type of connection between phone and pc. I guess that's time to give up - but this decision is more on main developer. Unfortunately he's on vacation right now.

However do you use Locus Free or Locus Pro?

Thanks

Petr

Hi Petr,

I've touched bases with Locus before but didn't really had the

technology to use it. I was keen to use it now, as I'm a keen

cacher and having upgraded my technology.

About a year ago, I came across open source maps, they are

brilliant and believe Locus can use such maps, which was another

reason why I was coming back to Locus.

Best regards,

David

Hello David,

Thank you. I only wanted to know if you use the Locus PRO. We can not solve this issue so I'd like to know if we can refund the purchase of Locus PRO app.

Hi Petr,

I hadn't purchase the Pro version but things have changed my end,

as I had to send the Harrier Mobile back and now have a Vodafone

Smart Ultra 6, which also runs Android 5.0.2.

Thought I would try Locus on this mobile and to my surprise, Locus

does run :) So, I will get the Pro version.

Thank you

David
