LoMap (oregon) elevation error..

LoMap (USA, Oregon) topo line height error. The map as loaded on on my android, is approx 1200 feet off with it's topo lines in my area. Is this an issue with my settings or the map itself? If the map itself then is there a means to report these errors to your map group? I'm not sure where you get the base topo's from but likely these kinds of things are unavoidable and annoying. The topo lines look OK via USGS maps. Thanks

Dear Nail,

thank you for the post. LoMaps are generated by our team but elevation data (for generation of contour lines) comes from NASA mission. However please send me screenshot or better the GPS coordinates of area with wrong elevation.

Thank you

My wife sorted this out for me  :)

It looks like though the distance on the map is in feet,  the topo elevation numbers are in meters,  so this is confusing.... but the math works out converting meters to feet for the topo lines.

I'm going to assume there is no way to change the topo line to be feet.

I'll download the USGS topos which are not as good but have the topo lines in feet if I need them...

Starting to like this app quite a bit....  thank you!

Please consider voting in favor of this Idea:

http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/lomaps-display-contour-lines-in-feet

So far it has only collected two votes which surprises me. In my experience, as a Canadian who hikes in the USA, American hikers are uncomfortable with metric contour lines. No matter if I tell them to just think of meters as 'super-sized yards', they prefer to see feet. Yet the Idea to have USA LoMaps available with metric/Imperial units only gets 2 votes? Surely there must be more than two Americans using Locus Map!

FYI: LoMaps (and many other maps) are based upon data from OpenStreetMap (OSM). OSM's depiction of trails is often superior to the dated versions in USGS 7.5' Topo. However, like Petr said, the data for the contours comes from other sources. If you want a map derived from OSM with Imperial contours, there's Gaia Topo Map. For example, here's Mount Hood:

https://www.gaiagps.com/map/?layer=GaiaTopoRasterFeet&lat=45.3733&lon=-121.6855&zoom=14

If you're interested, there's a way to display this map in Locus Map. However, it's important to remember that this is a raster map and not a vector map like LoMaps (vector maps occupy less storage space, can be themed, have searchable POIs, etc). USA LoMaps with switchable meters/feet contours would be the best solution.

There's also Caltopo's MapBuilder Topo (but I don't know how to get that one displayed in Locus Map … and it may be against CalTopo's terms of service). Once again, Mount Hood:

https://caltopo.com/map.html#ll=45.37318,-121.69563&z=15&b=mbt&a=mba

Hi,

LoMaps are really in meters. It's possible to prepare the maps with contour lines in feets but thee are some complications mentioned in http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/lomaps-display-contour-lines-in-feet

At this moment I can offer the workaround with "dynamic elevation" feature:

  • Please open Menu > Settings > Maps > Auxiliary graphics > enable Dynamic Elevation
  • In case that you see question mark, tap in right top corner on button that download elevation data for your area
  • finally you can check your unit settings in Menu > Settings > Language & Units
