Map Items Management as a complete alternative to Locus waypoints/tracks to open devices sync

Good day Menion !

From the last version, Locus have the Map Items Management function. I just realize something ...

In this menu, actually we can :

. have folders and sub-folders

. have kml and kmz (with their own icons)

. select kml/kmz that we want to be on the screen or not

. and few others options

Hmmmm, in fact, something a "little bit" like the Locus Database but with less options for the moment except the possibility to have sub-folders and ... except that as it is folders and files on a sdcard, it's easy to synchronize them between several devices, even computers and NAS (with Foldersync, Dropbox apps or others for example) !!! Something close from The Grail !!!

Questions : do you intend to improve it, add more options like create, edit and others similar from the ones existing actually in the usual Locus waypoints and tracks ? Could we imagine to use the Map Items Management function as a complete alternative to the usual Locus waypoints and tracks sometime ? (Answer yes ! :-) ;-) )

Oh, also, i have notice a problem. When several kmz waypoints are selected and displayed on the screen, only one of them has the possibility to be selected on the screen to have the details.

Have a nice day,

Cheers

Good day Fifi,

unfortunately answer is "no". Work with these "items" is really complicated compare to data in database. It is not simply possible to make some permanent changes, keeps correctly it's state etc. So yes, there are plans on some improvements, but mainly minor, nothing serious for now, sorry.

About problems ... if there is some issue, I need something for test please, so file(s) that cause you a troubles. Thanks

Thanks for your answer Menion,

About the problem, i've just created 2 new waypoints with Locus today for testing, then exported them in kmz and copied these kmz into a folder created into Mapitems.

Hmm ...

- I've created two random points by long-click > add button at bottom

- both exported to KML

- export moved to "mapItems" directory

- enabled to display on map

- zoom out to have both points on map close together

- tap in the middle popup a window with option to select first or second point

- tap on both of them works correctly

I see 2 differences between you and me. I've exported the waypoints in kmz and not in mapitems directory but in a subfolder created into the mapitems directory.

Also, for more information, icons are 2 different icons from my personal icons ZIP. If i tap on the kmz waypoint displayed on the screen, the one that doesn't want to display the popup swap to the other kmz waypoint and display the popup of the other one

This is what I needed since start, thanks, helped. Issue fixed.

About just about items ... give it a time. Currently I do not plan some huge changes in this new screen and definitely do not expect some advanced tools like exists in point/tracks (it is technically not possible just because these are read-only files), anyway I'm not saying that in "Map items" screen won't be any progress over time. As usually it will be, it just needs some time to find out what is really missing or needs to be changed. Thanks for understanding.

Good day Menion,

Thanks for that. No worries, i understand.

Just suggestions for later and when you'll have time for of course :

. Most missing option, in my point of view : Select all items (to display on the map) in a folder / sub-folder

. Less important : . possibility to open the Mapitems folder in an Android explorer straight from Locus

. sharing option in Locus

With that, it could be a good start and i think that, we could maybe even start to work with sync on some of categories of waypoints and tracks (i think to those that don't need to be modified with Locus) .

Have a nice Sunday !

Cheers

Hmmmm "Opening hours" ??? (New Pub function in Locus ? :) )

I use some texts during developing that I later have to change ... this case. "Opening hours" is used when you search and display points over "Google Places" function ;).
