Offline maps disappeared after updating 3.22.1

Hello everybody,

since updating version 3.22.1 Locus lost connection to my offline maps (on external sdcard). I can find all maps at the same place as before but there is no way to connect Locus with that folder. I dislike downloading 6 GB maps again... Are there a better solution?

Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

have you tried the standard method of adding external maps? http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:maps_external#adding_external_maps

Hello Michal, thank you for your quick response.

I have already tried it according to your suggestion. But for whatever reason the folder where I stored the maps in was not displayed. It was strange that the maps were displayed when I connect my phone to my computer. But I couldn't copy the maps to another place.

My colleague stored her offline-maps with a path similar to mine - absolut no problems occured after updating to Locus 3.22.1.

So I think that a stupid coincidence separated my offline-maps from Locus. Maybe its a problem with my phone.

I'll download the offline-maps again. Thanks a lot for your advice.

Hi Wolf,

have you tried copying/transferring the maps with some mobile file browser, e.g. ES Explorer? Anyway, as you describe it, the problem seems more likely to be in your mobile phone or malfunctioning SD card... If you manage somehow to move the maps, try also Locus/Maps directory - just for test if the maps are OK. However, this directory has to be placed in inner memory as it's working directory where Locus needs to read/write randomly (which is not allowed on SD card)

Hi Michal,

the important things first: I have downloaded my offline-maps again and have stored them into one of the recommended standard-folder : /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro/files/Locus/mapsVector.

Result: Everything works well as before.

But what caused the former problem that Locus couldn't find my offline-maps after updating to 3.22.1?

I'll try to reconstruct the situation about updating Locus.

My offline-maps were stored in /storage/sdcard1/Locus/mapsVector. That path was set in Locus (German version: Einstellungen>Verschiedenes>Standardverzeichnisse>mapsVector/Verzeichnis zuweisen). It worked without any problems - until updating.

When I started Locus the first time after updating, a menu asked for choosing "Standard Locus Map Pro Verzeichnis" (=folder). I can't remember exactly what I had chosen, but at that moment Locus lost my offline-maps. Neither Locus nor my mobile file-manager (Android assistant) found the maps. Strange: When I connected my mobile with my computer all maps could be found at the "old" place. But I couldn't copy or move them to any other place.

That's what happened. I have no explanation for it.

As I have already said my colleague has had the same path like me (/storage/sdcard1/Locus/mapsVector) and after updating Locus she wasn't asked to choose a standard-folder and Locus accepted that "old" path without any problems.

Many thanks for your answers.

hi Wolf,

why your phone file browser didn't detect the map files in their original location - I don't know. Why Locus needed to re-establish the maps storage location - it does so only if you move the maps manually somewhere where Locus can't find them. However, where did you find out that /storage/sdcard1/Android/data/menion.android.locus.pro/files/ is a recommended location? This directory is deleted without warning when you uninstall Locus and you can lose all your data stored there. Our recommended settings of storage is described here: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=de:manual:faq:use_sdcard_on_kitkat#locus_im_internen_speicher_und_einige_daten_auf_der_sd-karte_-_empfohlen

  Hi Menion, hi Michal,

Thank you for solving the problem with the setting „GPS and location – Track recording“: After the last Update, the button can be activated without crashing.

But there’s the still the problem that the recording stops, when the screen turns off:

1 After turning the screen on, there is shown an empty map with the notice „unknown problem“.

2 Opening the „Quick Map Switch“, I see, that the „MTB Europe“-Link is active, which naturally does not work in the offline-mode.

3 When I select an offline-map, the recording continues and Locus creates a straight line from the position before the screen turned off to the current position. Recording goes on as long as the screen is turned on, showing the offline map. At the moment, when the screen turns off again, Locus goes back to point 1.

Hi Michal,

you adressed me as „Wolf“ – may be, you wanted to send the mail to someone else?

Unlike Wolf, I have no problem with the locus file system which to me seems very clear.

Had the same problem, but I couldn't copy maps due size into internal memory, tried this one and it works now. http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/134230/sd-card-not-showing-files-when-connected-to-pc
