Problem with MapQuest online routing

Solved

Hi:

I have Locus Pro 3.15.2 running on Android 5.1. When I try to do navigation routing using the MapQuest routing engine, it does not work and I get the error message: "MapQuest, Directions Forbidden" in an orange box. I am able to do routing with Yours and OSRM with no problem. The problem persists with Locus mounted on the external SD card or in the phone memory, and using vector maps or online maps. Is the problem with MapQuest or with Locus?

Many tanks for an excellent app!!

Dear users.

We are sorry for the troubles with MapQuest routing. There is some problem on the MapQuest side. We have already asked them for a urgent fix. We are still waiting for their solution.

Thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards

I think something went wrong with the api key because the analysis of the http traffic between Locus and mapquest when trying to route says:

HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden

Content-Type: text/plain

Date: Wed, 10 Feb 2016 04:57:26 GMT

Server: Apigee Router

Content-Length: 322

Connection: keep-alive

We have now official response from MapQuest team:

According to our systems, your account is on the Plus plan; however, Ican see that the requests are failing for your key. We are working to resolve this with our partner.

Sorry, there is nothing, Locus team may do, except wait. Please change your routing provider in Settings > Navigation to any alternative source. In case of car navigation, we may suggest OSRM, for bike/hike gives very precise results Yours. Also consider try with possible offline routing. About this is more in our blog post here: http://www.locusmap.eu/locus-map-can-navigate-offline/

Thanks for understanding.

Thanks Menion, I switched over yesterday to OSRM and that worked.

I've just switched back to MapQuest now and that seems to be working again!

Their price policy is so stupid, that this will happen probably every month till we remove MapQuest routing completely. Sorry for it, we will try to solve it tomorrow.

Thanks for putting up with the MQ hassles. Though I love OSM and contribute quite a bit of time to it, I still don't completely trust it for long-distance routing, hence my use of MQ.

Maybe I should just take the plunge and go fully OSM...

Tried brouter ?

Yes, that's what I use when I'm cycling, or need to be offline. But it's only as good as the underlying OSM data. I think less people are working on the "invisible" aspects of OSM (eg road connections, speeds), than the obvious ones.

Hm, but does not use MQ OSM data as well ?

Perhaps just with more feature rich API than alternatives ?

Yep is use, and if I remember, quite outdated.

I never knew MapQuest routing used OSM, and only used it because I assumed it was proprietary and therefore (sigh) better than OSM in places where OSM needed work. Meaning: there was never a reason for me to switch from BRouter to MapQuest routing in the first place.

Suggestion: you may want to change the name of the option to "MapQuest OSM". That should cut down on unnecessary usage, especially considering the lamentably frozen state of MQ OSM maps.

Thank you for a feedback.

I believe that with new version 1.4.0+, that finally brings generated navigation commands, we may start to push offline navigation over this application as fully working solution for hike & bike.
