SD card on Android 4.4.X

on Android 4.4.X is normally SD card locked. But many users (me included) root their phones and allow to write on SD card, but Locus has still locked option to select root folder on SD.

It wolud be perfect if user could choose destination folder anywhere (some shitty filebrowser could show in dialog), and then, try to write some testing file. If it success, save user-selected destination, or show error message otherwise. This solutions can cover all storage problems for regular and rooted phones.

Hello Martin,

in Locus Settings > Misc > Set Root directory should be list of all possible root folders. Is there your SD card? If so, it is marked as read-only?

If any folder is set as "read-only", it's not just because Locus read this information somewhere. Locus always try to test it by creating a tiny file in directory (which is then immediately deleted). If this operation went well, folder is set as read-write.

So if Locus cannot write to your SD card, then there is still probably some problem with it. Are other apps able to write there? Maybe just try to restart you device, it may helps.

Why Locus don't request for "root rights"managed by (eg) SuperSU?

eg like TotalCommander and other tools?

And why it should? If you wants to have your card read-write, then you may set it globally https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix , not need to write something extra into Locus.

Miroslave ... sleeping. Every day fortunately.

Not sure what exactly is a problem in your device. Meanwhile you may read this as description how to use Locus Map & SD card and also this as explanation why Locus Map cannot use full SD card access as "other apps".

Quite old topic. As I wrote above as response to Miroslav, it's not still possible (and it will be even worst probably) to use SD card as main place where Locus Map store all it's data.

Sorry, "idea" desclined for now as "impossible to do". Thanks for understanding.

Miroslav,

there are a number of posts that explain a working setup - and I run such since years:

- all vector maps go to SD-Card - I use PC and move them manually. Not a a daily job, hence doable

- put "static" SQLITEDB-Maps to SD, too

- SRTM can go to SD-Card/Android/data/...Locus-Dir.../...

The only things left in the Locus home directory on internal SD are POI/track DBs, backups and exports (move them manually to SD, too). One time setup, and some drill you will do by heart soon.

So, what's the issue ?
