search ignores my location

matjes shared this problem 9 years ago
Solved

Whenever I search for an address or other location (like a hotel by name) the results I get start with entries halfway around the world. It completely ignore my current location. That's bad. I don't want to have to type in the local city/country name on every search just to get useful results

That's how it works - not really a problem.

> I don't want to have to type

Ah, that's the problem :)

Search should not be a lottery. Unless I specify what I'm looking for in a mobile map app, it is likely that I'm looking for what is nearest to me.

hello matjes,

may you please give us an example? To test it, I need a current coordinates of a map center and text you try to search. Thanks. I'll check what i may do with it.

My current location is S31 deg 57.087 E 115 deg 51.104 (Perth, Western Australia)

I am searching for "Wellington Street" and I get "Wellington Street United Kingdom" at N 51 deg 30.718 W 00 deg 07.227, 14400 km away..

But there is a Wellington Street not 100m from here..

The nearest Holiday Inn is also not 500m away,

I enter 'holiday inn' and get:

Street: Holiday Inn Holiday Inn

City: Bakirköy

Street: Berkeley St 3/Holiday Inn

City: London

Street: Egerton Rd Holiday Inn

City: Guildford

Region Surrey

plus two more, all in the UK

If I search "Holiday Inn Perth"

it again returns first one in Perth, UK, only the second hit is Holiday Inn City: Perth, Region WA

why is that? It should sanitize the finds and sort them by distance

"perth, wellington street" works for me

also "perth, holliday inn"

also "holliday inn" with "google places"

...

what searching service do you use?

menu - settings - miscellaneous - source for address search

I agree with above comment of matjes: "I'm looking for what is nearest to me".

Don't understand, why results are not sorted. Hmm. I'll fix this to next Locus versions. Results will be sorted and you will see an distance from map center as is in other dialogs with some point results.

Hope this helps to solve this issue.

Use Google Places (bottom of the menu) and that one sorts by distance from actual location (for me)
