Search in "Map Items" - search in existing "items" files by it's name

Good day Menion,

I appreciate very much all the recent optimizations to the Locus and the Search functionality, however I am still missing a function/mode of searching through Items (listed in Items tab of the Data Manager).

If I go Menu > Search and then I tap top-right-hamburger, there are all possible search functionality listed, among which are Local Data as well. Local Data contains Search in Points and Search in Tracks, but not Search in Items (which are also part of Data Manager). This is what I would like to see - Search in Items.

Why do I miss the function ? For example, I have hundreds of items (routes that I have created in KML form and plan to pass them, either biking or hiking in the future) which I don't presently need and don't wont to import, hogging my device's limited memory (just to be able to search through all of them). However, I occasionally search through them and load them to remind myself of the route or to show them to my friends. Often, it takes me minutes to scroll through all of them (in landscape mode, otherwise I don's see the whole name of the route/item) and find the right route.

So, I thought, "Search in Items" would speed-up the process and would nicely fit in "Search Local Data".

Good day Svjetlana,

interesting and agree that useful idea.

Searching in such text files is anyway a lot more complicated and should need some indexing of file content before it's used. I may leave this idea open for voting, but I'm really not a big fan of this solution.

For your use case, I really suggest to import required data into existing database.

Btw. "Items" tab will be removed in one of future versions of Locus and will be replaced by new separate screen just for "Map items".

Hi Menion,

OK, I fully understand you. Initially, I thought it wouldn't be much of a work for you to incorporate the idea. However, as you explained, and to the satisfaction of both sides, the best is to import the items, and this is exactly what I am going to do.

Consequently, as far as I am concerned, you may close this topic.

Thank you for your prompt reply.

Hello,

glad to hear it.

Imagine all files in "items" as simple text files. So searching for any text in these files is like searching many text documents. Situation is more complicated that these documents has many texts that should not be searched and some of them are compressed (zip, kmz). So searching should be really quite complicated.

Thanks for understanding.

Hi Menion,

Just a small note, it seems that I haven't made myself clear enough in the first message. When I said "Search in Items" I actually thought "Search through list of NAMES of Items" only, and not features inside of files in Items. Sorry for inconvenience. As you said, searching inside of files would be a terrible job to do. However, to search only NAMES/TITLES of the Items listed in Items tab of the Data Manager ... ?

Ah, this is important difference :)

I plan improved version of "Items" screen as I mentioned before. Once it will be done, published and tested for a few months, please remind me this topic. I can imagine add this feature directly into this new screen into top toolbar. It may be really useful, agree. Thanks

Hi Menion,

All right. That's it.

I shall keep this topic in mind and remind you of it in time the new version of "Items" screen became actual.

Thank you very much.

Hi Menion,

Just to remind you ...

now when we have brand new "Map Items" screen it would make sense to add to that screen something like "Search" and/or "Filter" and/or "Sort" in the similar manner as it exists in "Data - Tracks" screen and "Data - Points".

Sure, that's just an idea.

Hello,

thanks for "automatic reminder" :). I wrote before "published and tested for a few months" , anyway I have improvements in my head for this screen and some searching is there as well. But seems that there is no interest for some kind of "searching", so maybe it will have to wait a while ... thanks for understanding.

I miss or I can not find it.

Locate points that are part of LoMaps.

By name: bus stops, signposts, shops, restaurants, etc.

And search also by describing these points.

Description: shop, pub, restaurant,

You are misunderstood. We talk about searching in "map items", see

Are these items online?

Ops ... I did not know that.

They appeared when I started using LoMaps.

I have taken online so sometimes difficult to distinguish what is off and what online.

Thanks for the explanation.

This is how my previous consideration is out.
