Slow Locus Map after install on device with Android 7

Anthon Keuchenius shared this problem 8 years ago

I recently changed phones (from Nexus 5 to Nexus 6), reinstalled Locus on the new Phone and so far no problem. But since i moved all tracks from the old to the new phone (through dropbox) Locus has turned into a painstakingly slow app. Maybe i should delete all tracks but i really would rather keep them and think this sould not happen. Maybe someone knows what to do to solve this great problem, because i m reaaly fond of Locus and use it very often.

Kind regards,

Is your Nexus on Android 7 ?

Do you display all those tracks ?

Yes Android 7.0. I display old tracks yes, i like that. Was no problem before on the Nexus 5, so why should it be problem now?

Well, after upgrade to Android 7 I am facing problems on a LG G5 that I never had before.

Slow down in map display at levels 16 or 17 (depending on rgeion of the owrld, but not the type of map, theme or alike).

Dependency is on GPS switched on in Locus or not (on = slow, off=fast).

Same question you have :-)

Hello guys,

seems it same problem that I started to work on in second topic here . Hmm Michal, if this is not a problem, let's continue into this topic together with Anthon, hope we find out something.

So, issue still happen or was solved with latest version of Locus Map?

OK, I have more precise trigger for the problem:

- threshold is ZL 15, 16, 17, depending on location on the planet map

- real GPS (Android) & satellites on (Locus): no problem

- Fake GPS (Android App) & satellites on (Locus): PROBLEM

- no GPS at all & satellites on (Locus): no problem

Hope this helps.

Cheers

Michael

PS: using most current version (Beta)

Hello,

so by Fake GPS you mean this app?

So to simulate it, I should install this app, start it, set some location, then start Locus Map and turn on GPS in app ... and maps should be slow now, right? Or are there more complicated steps to simulate this problem?

yes, these are the steps.

Hello Michael,

may we do small test here? Please install this Beta version: https://nas.asamm.com/share.cgi?ssid=0U2CxNF . Start it and set all to make Locus slow, so map, points, tracks etc. When it will be slow/slower, long click on main top left menu button. There will be a "dev menu" with single option to start method called "tracking". Start it. After 10 seconds, Locus became registering everything what happen in device for 30 sec! So after these 10 seconds (you will see notification), start just moving with map. It will be even more slow, but it's ok. When this ends, in root of your internal memory will be file "trace_xxxxx.trace", so send me this please (probably zip it).

Thank you.

Thank you Menion.

Just downloaded the apk, but before applying, wanted to confirm the problem with 3.21.1.7.

You have ONE guess what I experience ...

Is there any change between the version from one week ago and the 3.21.1.7 that may have changed the behavior ?

BTW: I also activated Live Tracking while checking, which was green first, and showed 3 icons. Soon later it ran into an NW problem (locus message popup). Tapping one icon led to a FC. After restart of Locus, Live Tracking was stable, no FC.

My guess is that it works fine? :). I'm not aware of any change, that should affect performance of application. If there is absolutely no problem like before, then it should be because of some setting sin application itself. But whay may cause such huge slowdown .. no idea.

And FC, hmm. To fix FC = create log after crash ;).

Well I use it with Android 7 for some time and no new problems appear. Except rare reports here on forum from Michael and small issue with Geocaching4Locus cooperation on some devices (not such why some has this problems and some didn't), all seems to be fine.

@Michael: so .. any news? With latest Beta all is well? Hmm ... mentioned debug menu will be visible in next Beta versions as well, so feel free to use it in case of troubles.

You got it right, Menion. No problem any more on my G5. Not with latest official beta nor with the special 3.21.1.10 from above.

Green light from my side. And with the debugging feature you pit in now, we all cam cope with pot. future surprises anyway. Thank you.
