currently settings > Expert settings > Full screen

It allows an extra "row" top & bottom of screen to be used for the map display - sometimes very useful.

"expert" because does not work reliably with all devices - OK ;-(

But for those devices where it works, its benefit could be further extended to presets, Map screen content, & quick settings. When navigating, full screen is very useful, when planning, ordinary screen is better. At present it is tedious to switch between display modes.

Background :-

Android's immersive full-screen mode, which hides the status and navigation bars, was introduced in Android 4.4 (KitKat, API Level 19). It allows apps to use the entire screen, with system bars reappearing via an inward swipe. Later versions (Android 11+) moved to more restrictive, app-specific full-screen handling.
