User-defined visual patterns for dynamic distance circles

I would like to suggest an improvement to the existing dynamic distance circles.

I like the dynamic concept: the displayed distances adapt to the current zoom level. However, in practice it can be difficult to identify the individual circles quickly. The numerical labels are not always easy to read and can sometimes be outside the visible map area.

My suggestion

Allow users to define a line pattern for each distance value.

For example:

10 m ........

20 m .. .. .. .. ..

50 m .-.-.-.-.-.

100 m --------

200 m -- -- -- -- --

500 m --..--..--..

1 km ---- ----

The patterns above are only examples. The important point is that users should be able to define their own patterns.

A very simple pattern editor could use just three elements:

- "-" = line

- "." = dot

- space = gap

The numerical labels should remain available.

They would be useful during the short learning phase, allowing users to associate a pattern with its distance. Users who do not want to learn the patterns could simply continue using the labels.

For experienced users, the pattern would make the distance immediately recognizable without having to locate and read the label.

The key principle would therefore be:

Dynamic geometry, but stable and user-defined visual semantics.

This would improve the usability of the existing dynamic distance-circle feature without changing its basic concept.
