Add orientation data - rock dip and strike - from device to waypoint

I think Locus Maps is a great product and I use extensively.

However, one feature I know would be a big improvement to the geological community is to add the capability to record the attitude of rock formations at a particular location.

This is possible on a variety of apps – e.g. Fieldmove Clino or Rocklogger, which use the orientation and inclination information available in most devices. It needs to record the direction of maximum inclination (+ 90 degrees to give the strike direction – e.g. 344 becomes 074) and the amount of inclination (e.g. 32) to give the format of 074/32. Some geologists record the maximum dip and maximum dip direction. This is usually achieved by placing the device on the flat plane and touching to record this attitude. This could then be cached with the waypoint information and exported for onward use in other software. In an ideal world this would be plotted as a strike/dip waypoint icon – which is a line aligned with the strike direction and a short perpendicular line towards the dip direction.

I think this would have many field geologists quite excited at the prospect of adding this functionality to Locus maps.
