Support for new MyMaps (Google Maps Engine)
Declined
Hello! My friend created a custom map on Google and shared it with me. I installed the Pro version of Locus and tried to download this map via Menu-More-MyMaps. The problem is that I can only see the customs maps created by me long time ago on Google. But I do not see the newly shared or even newly created by me maps. Probably, it`s all about new Google Maps Engine. But I bought Locus only for this purpose: I need to use custom Google maps offline. Please help. BR, Pavel
Hello Pavel,
I`m sorry to bring you bad news, but Locus currently handle only older "My Maps" system from Google, not a new "Maps Engine". This is something we plan to support, but due to a lot of work, it is not in current short-therm list.
If you just purchased Locus and really just because of this, simply write us on support.locus@asamm.com your order number and we will refund your order, it is not a problem.

Currently it is still possible to use the old My Maps functionality, but it seems that Google will shut that down in favour of the new system. I also hope Locus will support Maps Engine at least when My Maps is offline.

I expect this "shutdown" since they inform that My Maps ends. It was anyway two yeard before and service still works. Anyway even that here on forum seems to be no topic as a request for new Maps Engine, I want to add support for this, so it is planned.

Hi Menion, as a User from the first days I would like to support the request to add the new MyMaps. Thanks, Sven

AFAIK the new MyMaps replacement requires 'Google Play Services' if the SDK is used at least.
This 'service' does more than handle maps; it will update itself, and any google app it chooses...silently, without user consent. This results in inexplicable new bugs (google 'google play services' 'battery drain' for one bug where google forced a new version of it's music app down everyone's throat, resulting in a globally synchronized 'wtf is draining my battery' issue). Beyond this, google 'upgrades' are frequently downgrades that remove functionality or implement UI refactoring (remember how nice the old Maps was?), and such behavior is an insecure blatant violation of privacy. For this reason, many do not wish to install such a 'service' on their device.
If support for the new api is implemented, please don't make Locus require it to run!

Don't worry. I have personally also bad feeling from Google Play services, so when any feature in Locus will need it, this feature will be optional and Google Play services won't be needed for basic function of Locus. I promise :)

I also need this feature with the new "Map Engine". Please make it happen.

Slightly off topic but I want to mention that I would be happy with any (free) online service to manage map data and be able to import/sync it with Locus.
In fact I think such a service could be better than Google Maps but unfortunately I haven't found such a service yet.

Hi since this week my maps is broken by google so I suggest to increase the priority of this request.
It's a pity the functionality is lost in locus.

It's time to join this request :-)
I used old My maps with Locus and now after Google "upgrade" to new MyMaps I miss this feature. Thanks for this

Ok guys, thanks for opening my eyes.
So if I understand correctly, older My Maps that were in Locus were removed few years ago and "new" Maps Engine ends next year together with API for access data. And remains only some, also called MyMaps, where is no way to access data, right? If so, this topic may be closed ...

Hi.
Just to confirm that I was using up to a few months the my maps option in Locus to update the my maps in Google. It was something that I used until the api was discontinued by google. I since installed the My Maps Engine app by google to edit the maps.
Best regards,
Luis Franco

So based on above discussion, I have to say that this topic is "declined". Thanks to changes Google plan on year 2016, Google Maps Engine API will be completely disabled so there will be no method for developers to access your data.
Question is, are there any alternative solutions? Also what is main purpose why you wants to use this service?

Well, for me it's all about syncing with other devices, or even friends (but not the most important thing). This is described here: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/cloud_map_and_data_storage_sync

Recently, google added My Maps support to their Google Maps app for Android. So may be they changed their plans about Maps Engine, or they designed some new API to access My Maps

Hello,
Is it, 3 years later possible to import them in locus maps?
