GPS, three questions

Three arrows with numbers on the image:

1. Since Locus 3.5.3 there is this little "clock" on the GPS symbol. What does it mean?

2. The popup says "ingeschakeld" which means "on", allthough my GPS is off.

3. As I said, GPS is off. PLEASE: this blue popup lasts about 5 seconds!! Make it two seconds and then I can go on with what I am doing :)

I remember that you are not the first one who has problems with this blue popup notification.

So in next version will be new parameter in configuration file called "gps_notify_if_disabled_during_start", which will be enabled by default. But set to "0" disable this notification.

Dag Henk, I observed next behaviour.

1. Indicator: Settings ->GPS and Locations->Internal GPS auto-off -> GPS auto off : Select or Not

2. "Ingeschakeld": Shows if Locus map is attached, or gets location information, from "a" location (gps or other) service or not. As such not showing if the hardware gps is in on or off state.

3. Time out: Actual setting is ok for me, read warning and push the short-cut, into the general Android menu to change setting(s). As most of the time Locus is used inclusive (gps) location service ? Unless for a static demo by 2. unattaching location service(s), and by shifting the map over the central cross indicator simulating a moving position.

(1,2): Android gps on/off setting: General circuit breaker for the hardware gps module. "Off" really means not available module. A secondary circuit gps breaker is by (1), Locus switches gps hardware on or off according to the auto off settings. Control monitor by app "PowerTutor" and history chart system view. See field gps hardware on/off, consuming power. Helps to find out the meaning of the different settings.

Thank you 0709!

1. Correct. I never use Auto off but had it for the moment activated, because I was responding and testing for/in another topic. Had never seen it before. SOLVED.

2. Not correct (for me). With all sources off (no wifi, no gps, no cell, flightmode) I still get the popup "ingeschakeld" (enabled with the gps symbol next to it) while the blue popup warns me to activate Location services. So this is a (small) mistake in the APP. NOT SOLVED.

3. I use the android widget for switching on/off GPS (and other stuff). So Menions blue popup with the shortcut to settings is less convenient. And I can read fast, so 5 seconds is defintely over the top. And yes, sometimes I use Locus on the couch without GPS. Then, the 5 seconds popup is even slightly irritating in a GREAT APP.

Maybe I should put nr 3 up as an idea?

2. Ingeschakeld: Is only a change "Indicator": When locus map application (de)connects to a location service. Independent from the real state, active or not, of any "location" service source be it info from wireless or the gps module. Henk, if you do not like that automatic small pop up message each time Locus starts/stops: It depends on next setting: "Instellingen->GPS en Locatie-> Inschakelen bij starten: Kies -> Nooit." Now you must manually connect to a location service when needed, or "Locatiebepaling inschakelen". During each (re)connect change to a location service (even manually) Locus confirms that change with this pop up.

3. Get rid of the blue pop-up: Set up at least one Locationservice. Or "Allow" via "Wireless". Android ->Locatie en beveiliging. Select: "Draadloze netwerken gebruiken" -> Vraag -> toestaan." Allow Google to collect information, Yes ! .....no problem, they probably already know all of your interests I suppose ;-). And no more pop up even in "vliegtuigstand".

Henk I agree with your powerconsumption concern. That screen info, when switching to a location service is not clear, or not correctly expresses the Locus function. Locus says "GPS ON". Means a connect to a location service, but is not any GPS hardware power On/off switching !

When GPS hardware is Off: No satellites display. Wireless data position info used, (if available).

When GPS hardware is On: Satellites display. The more precise position by gps is used.

Henk, more talk via forum PM, in Dutch pse !

Exactly as you wrote.

To "GPS on" message. You have to look on it from two points.

1. experience user who knows what happen, like you. He knows that this message is not correct, but he also knows what happen - Locus only listen to locations from system.

2. un-experienced user who knows only one word "GPS" and who have no idea what happen. He is glad he see notification that Locus receive location and don't care any more.

If you improve description to some "Locus enabled listening for locations", you maybe satisfy experienced users (few), but totally confuse un-experienced users (most of them). So I rather decided to not precise message.

Thank you Menion and Willy.

I understand that "connected" means "Locus is listening".

How about nr 3, the duration of the blue pop-up?

Hmm I'm testing it.

Currently, text is quite long. It took me around 4 seconds till I read it. Then another two second to decide if I wants to click on "settings" button or not. I think, that time is correct in case, such notification should be useful.

I'm sometimes curious, why people complain due to such things. How often you open/close Locus during a day? What is your usage of Locus when you have both location sources (network, GPS), disabled?

This notification is quite important. Quite often people disable location sources in their devices and then write on our email, that Locus is not able to display their location on a map. Quite funny :).

When I anm reading this or the other Forum, maybe four times in an hour :)

When I am hiking and mainly using for guiding, one start in the morning.

Ok, we will leave at this. Your last sentence about people emailing you, convinced me. Topic solved.
