Locus hangs on adding waypoint after push SAVE

alex a shared this problem 7 years ago
Solved

hello.

on the latest locus versions sometimes the adding waypoint takes for edges. like i am doing "add", edit the predefined name and push "save". at that point window "saving waypoint" appears on the screen and everything hangs. one time i was able wait when it goes away, 3 other times i was unable to. closing locus at that point does not help, it hangs on second start. phone reboot helps.

the working configuration when it happend was like this

1. buddy tracking to the server from my side

2. buddy tracking 1-2 buddies on the map via "map elements"

3. main map was osm-lomap or online map, overlay map was wikimapia hybrid.

it might be that the place where i was was having bad GSM coverage so internet connection was lost. and maybe when i was able to see finish of waypoint adding i just walked into better coverage place...

regards,

alex

Hi,

how many visible points do you have when this happens? Is the waypoint individual or a part of a route? What feature do you use when adding (way)points?

last time it was not too many visible waypoints on the screen (like 3-5), but maybe about 1400 are enabled in waypoints menu in other different places/categories. waypoint is individual, and used feature was "add waypoint" via panel button (with "+" sign on it)

Hi,

this lagging is quite normal with the settings and active features you have - 1400 active points, live tracking on, map overlay on... probably you haven't system powerful enough for fast handling of these tasks. More info at http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:locus_performance.

oh, the question is why adding waypoint on my table right now takes no time at all. and in the wood with bad coverage it did take for edges... maybe one of the processes involved into waypoint adding waits for internet response? the phone is galaxy s7, i think it has enough power, and i did not see such behavior 1-2 months ago with same or bigger number of waypoints enabled, so that makes me believe this is something from latest updates...

Adding points doesn't require internet connection but both Wikimapia and live tracking do. Nevertheless, I tested the settings you have on Xiaomi Mi3 which has weaker specs than your phone and no lagging occurred. Hard to solve a problem that can't be simulated.

i see... i am also not understand how to emulate bad coverage situation if it matters. do you think i can collect some logs if that will happen again? or when program hangs, it might be late to collect them? maybe some locus internal logging can be enabled in advance?

oh. one more thing, i do not have heights data for this areas, so sometimes i see message about it and ignoring it. maybe this could cause hangout? like it is trying to get corrected WP height from internet?

Good day Alex,

same problem I had during my vacation last days. In some cases, when there was bad internet connection, Locus was stuck and only disabling data/internet helped ( enabling immediately back was ok ). I'll look at this problem and let you know once fixed/improved.

Thanks Michal, I'll take care about this task now.

oh. that makes me believe that socket timeout reduce could help. thanks for disable data trick, it will probably close socket immediately, will try it if will see problem again. could you please remove logcat from public ticket?

Good day Alex,

I believe that this is one of biggest problems I found in Locus Map in maybe even last year. Problem was caused by change in Android system few years ago that I've unfortunately missed! Problem anyway found and fixed and in next version all should work as expected even on slow and unstable internet connection.
