Primary and secondary waypoint problem

Answered

Goodmorning,

I'm Matteo, I live in Belgium and I always use for my bike rides locus with gpx files generated from here http://www.fietsnet.be.

As you can see, on the map on the website there are several waypoints that I use for tracing my route.

When I download the gpx file and I open it in locus with the guidance function, it doesn't show only those "main" waypoints (big red dots) but also some "seconday" waypoints (small blue dots) that I think are actually all the points of the track and not the main waypoint.

The real waypoint are simply called with the numbers (i.e. "75"), while the others are called "Point XX".

Most importantly, when during the guidance locus shows the next waypoint on the top dashboard, it consider also those secondary waypoints.

I would like to see only the main waypoints and not the secondary. Is there a way to solve this?

I attach here one gpx file as an example.

I don't know why but the website does not allow me to upload gpx file, so I renamed it in doc.

You should rename it in .gpx

For the rest, the app is perfect for my needs!

Thank you

Good day Matteo,

thank you for sharing a file, it helps to solve this faster. I'm testing your file by opening on the map with "Map items" (file stored in Locus/mapItems directory) and it works fine. I see on the map only red dots and no blue dots. Also in file seems to be only these main waypoints.

Small blue dots are usually automatically generated navigation commands made by Locus itself, but it should not be this case.

May you please describe me your steps that leads to this problem, so I may simulate it on own device? Thank you!

In Navigation Screen or in Guidance Screen ?

From Knooppunt to next Knooppunt. (From Cycle node to next Cycle node)

Import gpx. Select Merge Points with track. Or Waypoints become Priority Points.

Start Navigate (or Guidance ?)

Q: Locus should not autogenerate the extra Direction instructions based on trackshape.

Or otherwise Locus should ask.....as was the usual method in older Locus versions ?

An example in Navigation Screen: https://youtu.be/Jt6WWmv-BkI

In top of the map infoline: After passing the actual Knooppunt shows you the passed (or next) Knooppunt number.

By select Big or small house button (next Locus version) (now arrows) at Left above corner near the top info line ;-)

Hello,

thank you for the fast reply.

The problem is not while just visualizing the track on the map, in that case I also see only the red dots, but when I start the guidance.

So I first try to import the track by opening the menu on the left, select track, tap on the 3 points on the right corner, select import, select the gpx file and import it.

Since you said that you open not via "items", i also tried the same but via "Items" (previously I put the gpx in the correct folder). So: open the menu on the left, select track, select "item", select the gpx and import it.

In both case, it generates a track. I select it and I select "navigation/guidance" and then "guidance".

In this moment, when the guidance starts, I see both red and blue dots (as shown in screenshot 1).

The result is the same with the two import methods.

The option that were selected for the import are shown in screenshot 2 (for importing via "track") and 3 (for importing via "items").

Thank you

Good day Matteo,

thank you for a precise description.

In this case, Locus use internal generator for navigation commands (as I mentioned before) and generate commands based on shape of track. They are then used for notifications during guidance.

If you wants to avoid this feature and let Locus notify on every trackpoint (without using feature called "navigation generator") you may enable settings > guidance > advanced > notify on every trackpoint . This should help.

Also as Willy (0709) suggested, use "Merge points with track" during import. This will attach all points directly into track so you won't have to deal with separate pack of points in "Points database".

Let me know if you will have any additional questions.

Good day, thank you both for the the help.

We are almost there.

Now using the "merge" function during the import of the track and selecting "notify on every track point"in the guidance option the blue dots are not visible aymore on the track during the guidance.

However, in the dashboard, I keep seeing not only the waypoints (74, 75 and so on) but also the other secondary points (point 6, point 7, and so on).

Actually, what I would like to obtain is exacty the same than what is visible in the youtube link that 0709 posted. However, I think that it was a different version (or the pro version) of locus since the dashboard is slightly differnt from mine (my current version is 3.18.9).

Any ideas?

Thank you

In Navigation.

Should work with Free too. I only used a little trick for that video. I will add the used file. Menion will sure recognise the used trick/method.

As Locus does not consider the merged waypoints (Priority Points) as directional points. After Navigate start Locus should ASK: : Track has no integrated direction instructions, must I generate these for you ? Y or N. Answer: No... but actual Locus doesn't ask anymore (as in the older versions.)

Anyway maybe there is a more elegant solution ? Let's here the boss for that.

In Guiding: (NOT V 3.18.9 ) But by Version 3.18.9.7 the actual Beta !

I tested the method by Menion: Also works. (Only shows you the 'Knooppunt" numbers.)

Guiding next point notification: SET. But I used notification sound: OFF (too many beeps) in a first fast test.

In advanced: Notify on every trackpoint: SET

No sound because otherwise (for me) too many beep beeb beeb ... does mean:

Guiding next point notification: UNSET.

Hello,

as you said, in the current version Locus doesn't ask: Track has no integrated direction instructions, must I generate these for you ? Y or N.

If I use the tcx track that you uploaded, the situation worsen: in the next point box it shows many more secondary points than before (even though they are not visible on the track as blue dots).

So I kept using the previous gpx track.

I imported from items, I merged, then I started the guidance using the options that you suggested, even if on my Locus the names are slightly different.

In Guidance:

POINTS

Show guidance panel: ON

Notification: OFF

TRACKS

Set next trackpoint (10mt)

Set notification of the next direction OFF/ON -->makes no difference

Out of route notification OFF

ADVANCED

Strict route following OFF/ON --> makes no difference

Notifify every trackpoint ON --> this is the option that (when ON) actually takes away blue dots from the track

STYLE ON MAP

Figure above guiding line: Nothing

Figure below guiding line: Nothing

Color: green

Text size: 20.0px

Still, I get indications for real waypoints and secondary waypoints

Question 1: I say that I keep seeing this indication just by starting guidance and then tapping on "next point". I'm not actually taking my bike to try it. This could influence (maybe this error is present only when tapping "next point" and not during real guidance)?

Question 2: what if I install (if still available somewhere) an old version in which locus still asks the question Track has no integrated direction instructions, must I generate these for you ? Y or N? Can it change something?

Question 3: what about the Beta version? Can it change something?

Thank you

Hello Matteo, 0709,

thanks for description.

Situation:

- you have a track that has no navigation commands

Options:

  • basic guidance with "notify on every trackpoint" disabled! Locus then discover, there are no navigation commands and generate new, then start guidance. All waypoints, also generated, are then visible and used
  • "notify on every trackpoint" enabled! Then Locus really follow track exactly without skipping and do not generated any navigation commands. Unfortunately for you, visible names are names of trackpoints. This will be anyway improved in next Locus version this week, so please test it and let me know. Together with this, also distances will be to these major points.

Q1: Q2: Q3: Best to wait for next version (soon).

Than have (real) tests with the (Menion) guiding settings and later report. Are succesfull or not.

Thank you both for the support.

I will wait for the new version and I will let you know.
