Vectormaps buy-download and update process

Hi,

I am using Locus vectorMaps very often. I have just reinstalled everthing on my phone because of a major firmware update. I bought neveral vectormaps from Locus shop on last june. At that time I got maps with a datestamp around mid june 2015. Today, I went back to the shop in order to re-download these maps with a hope that I get the newest version. I started with France (all regions). I had two choice:

1. Download the map. This was apparently for free but with a strange old date, i.e. 2015.04.09 (april ?)

2. Update the map. In this case the shop says that I have to pay the corresponding Locoins value (230) and the map is dated of september 19th, 2015

So, the question is : Is it possible to download the updated version of a vector map for free ? or for a limited time ? or anything else ?

Another question, not correlated with the first one: What is the resolution of the hgt files that we can download in Locus pro ? Is it SRTM1, SRTM3,...As far as I understand, they must come from the USGS database.

Best regards

Regarding SRTM as widely used approach, the first generation used 90m resolution, current uses 30 m resolution, not sure personally what version Locus uses. So the elevation data is radar average for 90x90 or 30x30 m area. There are artefacts as elevation upward/downward jumps at entering/leaving narrow valleys, forests, tunnels, bridges or high building urban areas. So 30 m data are better in some aspects, but not as much better as one could think.

Brouter using for now 90m SRTM data, integrated with routing data in its 5x5 degree rd5 grid filesi. It addresses artefacts by using a hysteresis filter buffer 10 m, ignoring SRTM elevation jittering values within this limit.

Hi,

to your question about vector maps - please see other topic: http://help.locusmap.eu/topic/1-year-download-guaranty

In briefly - you can download for free the old version you have purchased in the June. Downloading of the new updated version is charged.

It's SRTM3 data but not from USGS database. The source is http://viewfinderpanoramas.org/ - thanks to J. Ferranti that fixed some limitation of raw SRTM data especially in the mountain areas. Additionally we have filled the holes in the data.

Thank you

Petr
