ANT+ GEO support (Tracking and Locating) for CHIRP (geocaching)

Hi Menion,

thanks for the ANT+ support in the fantastic Locus app !!

I`m looking forward to prove the Locus with my ANT bike sensor.

I would be really pleased if you can add ANT+ support especially for GEO (tracking and locating)

http://www.thisisant.com/consumer/ant...

That will make the Locus app capable to read CHIRP for GC - it`s the only thing I`m missing on my geocaching tours. There is NO Android app capable to read CHIRP :(

Thanks for your reply

There is an app for that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/de.....

But this app can`t write on CHIRPs.

Good idea but its more a plaything.

According to this developers blog:

http://fun2code-blog.blogspot.de/2012...

its working only in max 2 meters distanz.

hmm cannot confirm it nigel, anyway to be true, I already have this device at home, I also already played with it around 2 hours, but documentation is for me so confusing, that I wasn`t able to make it work. So till there will a lot more voices or appear some public source code, this idea will remain "Open"

Menion if you really intend to integrate it: cool.

Have a look at the above mentioned website it could help. ;)

Result Intent

The app can be also called from another app by using a Result Intent.

The Intent Action to use is: de.fun2code.android.cachebeacon.SEARCH

The resulting Intent contains some Intent Extras.

Here is the list:

Finally had the possiblity to try to find a chirp. It was not working with my Xperia Mini but the Garmin Oregon device did find it soon. that means you have to be very close to the chirp, probably less than a meter.

Hello,

You think one day incorporate the "ANT +" function Chirp Garmin for Geocaching?

That would be really handy!

Hello,

Thank you for your answer!

I've used this application. Which works very well. But it is basic functionality.

For what is unfortunate is that we can not switch directly from "Ant plugin + Sampler" to this application "Locus" to continue its multi-cover ... Even with a simple copy and paste.

I had a case where I had to retrieve the coordinates listed in the Garmin tag to continue my path and unfortunately so I was compelled to write on a piece of paper the coordinates ...

That is why I asked if you could add reading Garmin tags in "Locus" ...

I even asked the developer of "Ant +" if he could make some improvements to their program. I was told that it was only a demonstration application to help others developers like you ...

Sorry for my english!

Best regards.

Stéphane

Hi,

I know about the limitations of "Ant plugin + Sampler"

But if my information are correct, the sourcecode for "Ant plugin + Sampler" is available, so it shouldn't require that much effort, to code it into Locus. Thats the reason I brought it up.

BTW: I was in the same situation like you but solved it with a screenshot instead of paper....

Yes I may confirm, that source code for handling with CHIRP sensor is available for use with latest ANT+ Plugins. So it won't be probably so complicated to add support to Locus. It anyway depend on what features will be needed, if just read information or also something more.

Anyway when this will be done, depend on a free time (this is more minor feature) and also interest (number of votes)

Thank you for that glimmer of hope and also for the tip! ;-)

Hi guys,

I have two questions

  1. What you expected that Locus will do? Is enough to search for such sensor, read coordinates and create a new point?
  2. Is anyone owner of this sensor or has anyone some cache with it near so you can test it in the field?

And one note - I was today fixing some problems with HRM ANT sensor and because I also updated ANT+ library in Locus, after quick check I tried to add support for this. And it seems to work :). Anyway planned is only "Read only" access. No programming, sorry.

A simple reading of the contained Garmin tag will already be very useful!

I could easily test if necessary

I'm okay with the read only :)

Perfect, so in next version (or test version) will be this (screenshot) as a first version

Menion, to your question:

1) Text and Coords are important. From my perspective, reading is more than sufficient, creating the next point is the cream on top of the icecone.

2) I have one about 5km frome my home. My phone has already tested it with the ant-demo app. It is working more with a distance of more than 7m. Since I strongely supported the idea of integrating it in Locus, I will certainly test it.

Cool!

Since my phones ressources are very limited I could only test the pro version if available ... and I'm not assigned as betatester. I'll have to wait till the version is in store before giving feedback.

I

tested the chirp today and it works great to receive the data. My system

is the Galaxy S5 with Android 4.4.2. In the received textfields I only see

wrong charakters for ä, ü, ö in germany.

Hello,

I could not find how to download the updated version.

How should I proceed?

photo
1

Okay sorry for the question! I think I finally found how to install

photo

Because I see no complains about current implementation, I believe it's working.

So idea "closed".

photo

How does it find chirps with ANT+? I don't see any documentation anywhere!

photo
1

Documentation is in preparation.

Did you anyway tried "menu > more > Ant manager > and from menu choose "Geo" sensor?

photo
1

I think I may have found it. You have to record the journey in order for it to find the sensor once it is enabled. Does that sound correct?

photo
1

I think there should be no need to use Locus "Track recording" feature to use this ANT+ Geocaching feature.

Is anyone here using this feature in Locus? I'm asking because to be true, I've never used it in the field, so some more words from experienced user may be useful here.

Anyway generally you should just enabled ANT+ Chirp support in Locus > menu > more > ANT manager, and if any Chirp is nearby, Locus should automatically connect to it, am I right?

I've used it ones... worked flawlessly.. needed to be in close range of the chirp.. approx 10 m or so..

First of all! Is your Android Smartphone is equipped with ANT +?

Some brands are equipped with this technology such as SONY and SAMSUNG.

You can see the Smartphone equipped here:

Hello Stephanely,

My Smartphone is a "BQ Aquaris"

I have seen the list, but this brand is not included.

That means that Ant+ won't opperate in this smartphone?

Thank you

Hi Miguel,

If your Smartphone is not in the list.

There is a good chance that you will not use the ANT + Foncton Locus.

Technology is a GARMIN some communication system such as Bluetooth.

Try enabling the feature in LOCUS in hardware devices and the function will not enter CONNECT mode. It is impossible to read a déffinitivement CHIRP with your smartphone

Best regards
