Geocaching-Note (upload also to sever)

Completed

It is possible to edit note for every cache (just premium member?). I use it for multicaches and mystery. Especially some multicaches has some stages far from each other and it take weeks to gather them all. If I put the notes on the server, it gets downloaded with the cache, but when I fill it up in Locus, it is not uploaded to the server. This is not implemented yet and I would be very grateful for this feature (now I try to update it by hand at home - it takes time and I may forget something and delete it later on the phone).

Good idea! If the Geocaching-live API supports this, that would be cool!

Agree. Also updating computed cache's coordinates would be amazing

I would really like this upload option (like in cgeo).

Why: I normally add solutions to mysteries onto the cache webpage into Personal Notes and include the final coords as WGS coords (N51 12.345 E05 12.456).

BTW, when loading the cache into Locus Pro it will as this coord as a waypoint. When activating (make visible) that WP it will show it, connected by a thin red line.

Now, when updating anything of the text in the Notes, it would indeed be great when able to upload it back to GC.com. My vote is added.

I need the note upload funtion very often in mysteries and multis and must switch on c:geo to send my answers to the server. Its very helpful for me and I also voted for this to implement the function.

Hi guys,

you convinced me :)

In next version will be in edit dialog (for 'notes'), three buttons at bottom.

'Cancel', 'Save and upload', 'Save'

Hope it's what you need ;)

Yayy! Thank you! And please, please, will you include the back-sync of the computed coordinates? You said that "should be useful" as well :)

Answer on "coors" is added to mentioned topic

Okay, at least it will be possible to upload the computed coords using the note function.

However, that brings me to another question: Duplicities.

How about the possible conflict between existing notes on the server and the new ones I'm going to upload? Is the server note going to be overwritten by default? Is there a possiblity to merge the two notes? Or even better while uploading a new note to server, could Locus show me the already existing one and ask whether I'd like to overwrite it, keep the one on server or keep both (separated by three asterisks or something ike that)?

No so simple ... again.

I miss some simple function "get current note". Only way to get note for any cache, is request on complete cache with all information. Problem here is that

  1. Locus do not do this. Loading of all caches is done in G4L add-on
  2. such loading will reduce number of caches for a day. So for basic members with only three caches and also limited only for a Tradi caches, it's quite bad.

Anyway if you now write any note on web and you then update cache by G4L add-on, you will see your note, right? If you then edit this note, then Locus upload )and overwrite) whole note on server. So I think, it's ok in this way. Just before you start work on any cache, update it.

What about the "GetUsersCacheNotes"?

So you know API pages, perfect.

This one is nice .. it returns completely all!! notes you ever in your life done. You may see it in API parameters "startIndex" and "maxPerPage". So I do not see much sense in this function.

No, I don't, I just searched for an API discussion in the groundspeak forum and somebody shared this link there, but I don't understand it that much :)

But I guess downloading all would be pretty messy.

Yes I'm sure it's not a way to go - download all and then search for required note.

I'm worried, that for now we have to live without any sychronization. And we will see what brings new versions of Groundspeak API. I'll also ask developer of Geocaching4Locus, who is more skilled with this Groundspeak API, maybe he will has any idea ...

Just wanted to say that this new Upload Notes function works great!

I really love this feature and fills a requirement I had for long.

I have an additional idea around extracting waypoints, but that I will enter as a separate idea.
