Show Offline Vector maps available updates

Byron Swogger shared this idea 9 years ago

In the new version, with all you changes to the vector map section, the map update feature no longer works. With the older version of Locus it would show if there is a newer version of one of my offline Vector maps. Now it does not show that, and I have no idea if there is a newer version of my offline stored map. Is it possible to put that auto update feature back in.

-> quote: it's not now possible, but it's definitely planned. I agree that it's one of most important features, so don't worry. During June/July it will be there on 100, hmm rather 99 %

but hey, Byron

We see now the very important "last updated" and "Version" information.

Ok, thanks glad your going to put it in. I guess for now I can go into each map, and compare the date of mine vs the online one. This will be very tedious since I have many offline maps.

Hi Byron,

you don't have to compare times. Locus correctly display small "update" symbol in list of maps. For example when you tap on "Austria", on "Austria vector map" will be small update symbol.

What is missing is one global check - give me all available updates. And this is what is really planned as gynta wrote.

I went into maps that I knew were out of date, and I saw no update icon. I also went into the the map download section and selected the state I knew was out of date, still no update icon.

Yes it's possible. There is one main difference compare to previous version. In version before 3.0.0, Locus just tested files on card versus list of files received from server. In new version, Locus records localy all! downloads you made and compare these with values from server.

This means, that update icon will appear to your items in new Locus Store only! if previous version of this item was also downloaded by new Locus Store.

Hope this is clear and sorry for a small complications.

Does this update just what's coming from your store?

I'm using mapsforge maps, and have another app ask to update these which then also applies to maps in Locus, as maps are shared across apps...

Yes that's correct. If you update vector map by different app or manually, Locus won't be able to recognize that you have latest version and offer you update.

So does this mean that I won't see the update button even when

I bought the vector maps in the old locus credit system? (I mean before LoCoins and the new store).

Yes this is correct.

New system is quite a lot more complex and is really required to download data over this new store to see available updates. It's was not possible to "import" already downloaded data.

But believe it isn't a big problem. If you need an update for any map, just check if update exists.

Currently it's still required to check one map after another. Some "Check all updates" is planned soon, but not yet ready as I wrote before.

Well, the only inconvenience I see is that if you want the same feature as the new users of the new Locus Store you have to delete your maps and buy them again...

What you wrote will have only effect - you'll see if update for maps is available or not.

You may anyway also check field "Version" on screen of every vector map. This text is date of map generation, so you may simply check if new map exists. We really do not force anyone to purchase new maps, but as I wrote, there were no simple solution.

Comparing of new/updates etc. is currently not done only by file and it's size (as before), but also by version. In case of more files in one item, like pack of icons, there is also a check if all files on card are available and correct. This was not possible before.

In next version of Locus will be an "Check for updates" button in menu in Locus Store, which allows to simply check for existing updates of maps downloaded over Locus Store.
