Will Locus Map Pro be dumped in favor of the subscription version?

I have been told that Locus Map Pro has become a subscription service, meaning that a license holder has to pay every once in a while to keep using the app.

If i am wrong, i would very much appreciate a link to the database entry that explains the whole subscription issue.

In case this is correct or only partially correct, i have the following questions:

-Did Locus Map Pro really become a subscription service? If so, when did that happen: day, month and year?

-If Locus Map Pro is not the subscription service, will its development in the future be just as full of bugs and crash inducing issues as it has been in recent times?

-If Locus Pro is not the subscription, what will happen to it in the long term? Will Locus Map Pro be dumped in favor of the subscription version??

Best regards

Hello Michal, thanks for the clarifying answers, which generated further questions:

1-When Locus Map (LM) Pro is no further developed, will it keep all functions as of now? 2-Will free map downloads still be possible? 3-Will navigation using BRouter still be possible? Besides; 4-Will help desk accessibility remain unchanged? 5-Will database accessibility remain unchanged?

6-Can a license holder who does not want to deinstall LM Pro be allowed to download the apk of an earlier and less unstable version and downgrade accordingly? If so, please let me know where from (link to site).

7-Considering that a present LM Pro user may think about purchasing a subscription to LM 4: In what intervals are payments due - annualy? 8-What is the actual corresponding sum in EUR (i am aware that the payments occur in LoCoin) for the subscription of the silver version, and what for the gold version? 9-Will LM 4 be as stable as other concurring apps in the market, and what kind of guarantee will be offered to a subscriber of LM 4 as to stable function? 10-Will LM 4 become different as to compatibility with other commonly available file formats (i.e. gpx etc)?

Thanks in advance for your answers!

Best regards

Hi.

Locus Map Pro is still maintained and updated. The date of abandoning it is unknown as well as the answers to the related questions.

6) you can install any version you want, see https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:faq:devices_older_android

7) subscriptions are available in monthly and annual versions More info here. We are working on single-payment time vouchers too. They should be available since April.

8) prices in € are here. Subscriptions are sold by Google Play Store. LoCoins are used only in Locus Store.

9) hopefully, yes. We are not planning to develop unstable versions and never have been.

10) no, LM will remain compatible with all the file formats it's compatible with now.

Hello Michal, thanks for the reply. I will have a look at the LM 4 site.

You wrote:

My questions:

>Do you know what is the best working version of LM Pro for Android 5.0.1 on Samsung devices (in my case, a GT-I9506 16GB)?

>>Is a de-install of the present version necessary before performing a downgrade? If so, would the external sd storage be deleted by the de-install process?

>>> Would i need to manually delete data and/or files left over after downgrade?

Thanks in advance for your reply!

GT-I9506 ( Samung S4) is 8 years old with only 2gb ram, latest Android it can run is 5

main issue is that as its running touchwiz, it will be slow and any app on it might be crashing.

google play services probably will be out of date, so the phone is on its last legs for app compatability

You cant really expect android develops to support/cater to such old versions of android , as of december 5.1 was 1.97% market share... they need to develop for the common Android versions, so that we can have new features...

Main reason for subscription, is that users can fund even more Locus development, to get these new features,

if you buy an app for £3 like I did 10 years ago, theers only so much developer time that buys..

The locus team cant go forward without income to do so.

So I, like a lot of people, have pro subscription, simply to see what new things will appear here with locus....not just because we need the L4 specific features like sync etc.

Always backup the Locus folder just in case, but it should leave it intact

theres many otehr things that make backing up Locus folders neccesary anyway, so you should already be doing it.

Thanks Alistair.

Locus Map supports Android 5, there should be no problem running it on the old Samsung, albeit probably with performance issues Alistair mentioned.

Uninstall before downgrading is recommended. If the Locus directory is in the root of the internal storage, it won't be deleted upon the uninstall. If it is in the private folder in Android/data (in the internal or external SD card, it doesn't matter), it'll be probably deleted. Anyway, backup of Locus data before any install/uninstall action is recommended (https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tools:backup).

No additional data deleting is necessary.
