Auto backup to a cloud storage doesn't work

Solved

Hello!

I've got a problem. Auto backup to a cloud storage doesn't work. Locus 4.5.6. Xiomi Redmi 4x with Android 7.

I've set auto backup to OneDrive. It had worked fine until November. Today I saw that the last backup archieve is done about a month ago.

The same bug exists in Locus Map Pro 3.56.4

Hello,

please try to set the whole backup again. It's possible that you have been logged out. When you try to set it, if it's not connected, you will be prompted to log in again.

Let me know if it helps.

Hi, Zdenek!

I tried to do it a few times, but I've got the same bug. Auto backup doesn't still work. By the way I see that Locus doesn't create zips in the "files/locus/backup" folder. There are old backups there, but there are no fresh zips created with the autobackup function.

Hello.

Sorry for the late reply. Does the problem still persist after update?

Did you try to set Auto backup to another place (Google drive, local directory)? Was there any change?

Hi!

I've tried to set different clouds: OneDrive, Dropbox, Google. The problem remains, autobackup doesn't work. It doesn't even work to local directory.

I can confirm the issue. (latest Locus Map 4 Gold on a Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Android 12, One UI 4.0). No more automatic backup to the cloud. Can't find the local zip file either. I logged out of Google Drive and logged back in, reconfirming access to Google Drive and all. Switched to Dropbox too. Nothing. My last automatic backup is from only a couple of days prior the last update of Locus Map (or maybe the One UI update last Saturday, though I believe for this to be the culprit at least one more automatic backup should have been created and uploaded before that). And manual backups don't show up nowhere. I had posted this here as well: https://forum.locusmap.eu/index.php?topic=7812.0

Hello guys,

firstly, try to force "Backup all" manually and check if the backup is created.

Let me know, please.

Hi,

Yes, by now I found the local manual backup file deep down in /_Android_data/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/backup as well as the scheduled auto backup file in the auto subfolder. But neither of them is getting uploaded to the cloud (no matter which cloud) in the process of the backup. No error message whatsoever.

Cheers,

Mac

Hello,

the same problem

Weird as it is, in the past I used to have problems with cloud auto backup. It just didn't work. I tried Locus Pro Gold on two phones, one running Android 10 (Doogee S88 Pro), other running Android 6 (Samsung Galaxy Note 4). I updated the app as new versions, including beta, become available.

Somewhere towards the end of Nov 2021 everything started to work properly on the phone with Android 10. I did not change any settings. Now backups are made every 7 days, as set up in Locus.

On the other phone still no luck. They are made locally but never auto upload to the cloud.

Both phones are running the very same version of Locus, both have identical setup etc.

I had 2 subscriptions running. I canceled one. And now I can back up with no problems

photo

Do you mean two DIFFERENT subscriptions or the very same subscription running on TWO phones?

Torsten's problem was the concurrence of two subscriptions, but it affects Cloud sync, not the Backup.

To the backup problem - backup obviously works (if Backup all works), the problem is with the service which schedules automatic runs. We are searching for the problem still.

Additional note to my post above about cloud backup working on one phone and not working on another. I once again checked the whole setup on Samsung Note 4 with Android 6 (the one NOT making cloud backups). Sure as it was, they were identical as on the other, working phone. I then made a manual backup and used "share" option to put it manually into the cloud.

To my amazement, today I found a fresh automatic backup on the very same cloud. It seems that somehow backup service/engine kicked into life only after making a manual cloud backup FIRST.

Hi! Today I've found out that two auto backups were created on Dropbox. One of them were created today. I have had Locus opened for a long time on my phone and the backup was created in this period, I think. The first backup has timestamp 2022-01-27, the last one 2022-01-30. Three days between them. Although I've set creating autobackups each 1 day in Locus settings!

Hi guys, it is little more complicated then it looks because app here depends on the third party library (so called Google Work manager) and it is a little black box. Anyway I've noticed that even my app did only 5 backups during January (there should be one every two days), so I've modified a few parameters of this system and let's try it with the next app version (will come soon). Thanks for now.

Hi Menion!

That's good news. I'll be waiting for a new release. Thanks!

Hi guys,

after the recent update, seems that automatic backup (at least on my device) does not work at all. I want to inform you that I'm aware of this issue and will work on it during the next few days, so the next version should bring any improvements.

As I wrote before, for these automatic tasks, I use some tool from Google that is a little bit a "black box", very hard to test. I have to find some testing system and make this feature more reliable. Thanks for understanding. I'll inform you here about the progress.

Hi guys, what is your experience with the latest app version? I've discovered issue with upload to OneDrive storage (that will be fixed in the next app version), but for all other cloud storages, it seems to work correctly now. Do you have same experience? Let me know, thanks.

Locus 4.6.1 is creating the backups in the local folder (android/data/menion/etc) but they are not getting copied to Google My Drive. Today I checked backup settings and changed the frequency to 3 days. And now I see a backup in My Drive as expected.

I have a question from before though. I manually triggered a backup and Locus created it in the local folder but did not upload it to the cloud. But at least the auto backups are working OK.

photo

Hello!

No, in LocusMap 4.6.1 it doesn't work still. In my Dropbox storage the last backup was made on February 5th, although Locus must make it every seven days.

photo

I believe the update Menion mentioned has not made it to the app store yet (right?), at least not in my case. 4.6.1 is the one available, and there's no change to the issue.

Nono, I was talking about latest public 4.6.1 version. Hmm no difference, interesting.

Guys, I was looking at it for quite a long time and this is best I'm able to create for now. Sorry. Let's hope it will start work as expected over time ...

I do have an automatic update in my cloud drive. But it's a little older than the set interval. So it seems to work at least sometimes ...ish. I'll keep an eye on it the next days.

photo

Another automatic backup file showed up in the cloud, with last night's timestamp. Let's see whether the next one gets uploaded too in 7 days (the given interval). Can't tell why there is a larger gap in time between this and the one before. Maybe because I made the backup manually in between?!

photo
2

It seems to back on track. Another automatic backup file ended up in my cloud drive, with a timestamp 7 days after the previous one. So I guess it's working again - at least in my case.

photo

the last two backups worked for me. but before that there was a gap. sometimes it also helped if you deactivated the backup and just restarted Locus and then activated it again. just check it from time to time. is not so important for me because I still save the whole locus folder in parallel.

I'm a Redmi9 user and use "Developer Options" for Android coding. I had the same problem, but finally managed to fix it by enabling "Turn on MIUI optimisation" in the phone's setup - developer options. Hope it works!

Hello Charl,

enabling! MIUI optimizations helped to solve the auto-backup feature? We will have to try it, thanks.

Yip, so far so good... see the attached image of the backup folder on my Google Drive:
