How to enable/disable auto-retrieval of maps in Locus?

Answered

Sometimes I just want to track my gps positions during travelling for later (!) view WITH maps.

For that purpose I don't need instant map view - only gps data logging.

How exactly can I turn off permanent map retrieval through my mobile internet provider connection in this scenario?

Resp. how can I turn it on again?

for this and to save accu :

menue/display/Control on/off screen is "ON" and checked "Turn On/Off by gesture"

Thank you for answer.

However what means "use a offline map"?

From my point of view it means that I have to download the map in advance (=before the tour starts). This is rather uncomfortable especially when I don't know which route I will take in detail.

So there is no such retrieve on demand similar to a car navigation app?

I cannot believe that Locus does not offer such an option.

Hello Peter,

There are couple of possibilities if you don't load maps via mobile internet:

A. download map for offline usage as balloni wrote

- you can download deffined area of online maps - see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:maps:download_online_maps

- second solution is download vector maps from store http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:maps:get_vector_maps

I suggest download vector maps because they have smaller size and you can download maps for whole state/region

B. Offline Mode

Enable Menu > Settings > Offline Mode. If this option is enablad then Locus does not load map via internet only read cached data
