What exactly does "elevation (all)" mean for track recording? Is it the sum of the (absolute values of) changes in elevation both up and down, or is it net change up/down at the end of your hike?

Oh, I think I get it now - it's current elevation.

If you by "Current elevation" mean you expectation - sum of all elevations (up/down), it's correct.

So if I start at 500 ft above sea level, then climb up 100 feet, then down 50 feet and stop, it will read 550 ft?

nono, you'll read 150 m. Because you climb 100 up + 50 down. So total elevation is 150 m
