Bluetooth GPS (bad elf pro) connection problem

Kelvin Floyd shared this problem 23 months ago
Solved

Hi

Using Locus Map Classic, in Bluetooth Manager a paired Bluetooth gps (bad elf pro+) doesn't show as a gps device, just shows sensor disconnected. But the same gps shows and connects as a NMEA reader.

On the same phone and bluetooth gps using Locus Map 4.8.2 the Bluetooth gps shows under sensors manager and connects.

Any ideas to get Locus 3 to connect without using another app and mock location.

Thanks

Hello Kelvin,

you open "Bluetooth manager", enable GPS device, and pick a paired Bluetooth device and after the moment you only see a message "Device disconnected"? Does nothing more happen? In case, you connect it as an NMEA reader, it simply displays "connected" without a problem. Do I understand correctly?

If the same issue happens also with the latest Locus Map Classic 3.60 version, I'll, unfortunately, need a log created by this method. There is a (not big) chance, there is any error that will be visible in this log. Thank you.

Hi

version 3.60.0

GPS does not show when you enable "GPS Device" but it does for 'NMEA reader'. see image below. No problem in Locus Map 4

I have generated a debug log, is there a file or part of the main log that I can send rather than the whole zip

Thanks for looking into this

Hello,

does not show means you do not even get offered to connect to your BT device right? Give it a try and click on the "wrench" icon in the "GPS device" panel and choose "Remove association". Does it help?

Hi

No the option to choose a bluetooth device does not appear when I enable 'GPS Device'

Clicking the wrench, the option 'remove association' is greyed out

Hi

I have just checked on another phone with a bluetooth gps that I have been using fine with Locus for the past few years, (just upgraded phone and gps last month)

It has the same problem, when you enable 'GPS device' the dialog with a list of paired devices does not appear so you can choose the device.

So on both phones, Android 9 and 11, and with a bad elf Gps and Garmin Glo gps. The option to choose a bluetooth gps does not show anymore

Thanks

Hello Kevin,

I'm testing it and you are correct. The current system seems to work correctly, but is a little bit confusing.

Please open the skyplot screen (screen with satellites) and tap on the bottom right icon that should open chooser for GNSS source.

Does it work for you?

Hi

Yes that works. The gps also shows now in Bluetooth manager.

I had always gone through bluetooth manager to activate it, but will use the skyplot screen now.

Thanks very much.

Keep up the good work, Love the app, use it daily in conservation work for tracklogs and importing other points to show on the map.

Hello,

perfect! I'm sorry for this confusion. It worked as you wrote, so directly over Bluetooth manager. But a half year ago, since we introduced the new "Sensors manager" in the Locus Map 4, we need a place where users may choose from more than internal/bluetooth sources. In LM4 may be defined more than one external GNSS device so this new system directly over sky-plot was introduced. But as I wrote, it is a little confusing. I'll look at it, thanks.
