AR plugin - wrong display of POIs

johannes.feder.73 shared this problem 12 years ago
Solved

Hello Locus team!

I really enjoy working with Locus Pro on my Toshiba Thrive tablet. Everything works fine except the orientation of the POIs in AR mode.

When I move the talet horizontally with the camera switched on, the right POIs will appear on the screen, but moving from top to down instead of left to right. Also the text is vertically oriented (whereas it should be horizontally).

So I think the x and the y axis is not correct (somehow switched).

Thanks for your support, Johannes

The same here in Galaxy Tab 10.1. I sent emails months ago. The POIs appear 90 degrees rotated, so vertically on the camera image. When the tab is rotated horizontally, the POIs move vertically...

I know about this issue. Addon for AR is almost year old. It was (and is - as written on market page) still Beta and because there was not huge interest in this, seems as Beta remain.

If you`re interested in fixing this, just vote for this issue, to let me know

I was also thinking about releasing AR addon under GPL. There`s too much things to do on Locus, so maybe someone other should be interested in developing AR addon ...

Dear Menion,

I was very happy when the Hungarian turist map has been integrated into Locus.

Later I added a lot of POI-s with height to be able to view in the AR addon.

But I was disappointed when finally fired up the AR, and it was displaying the points badly - and no update since then to the addon.

I spent few hours searching for similar AR apps on the market, but there are no any, or not near at Locus and AR addon. It is a brilliant and standalone app in this category, every other app miss basic things, like cannot display custom maps/POIs over the camera image, or not with height, and none of them has this huge selection of maps! In fact they usually don`t have any possibility other than the default map if have map at all. I hope you will update this addon before the hiking season, I think it takes only few minutes for you to add an option to exchange the x/y coordinates. Thanks in advance. Ede

The AR plugin is what first attracted me to locus, some ideas for extra features would be to be able to take a photo of the current AR view, to show a mini map in the corner, to show a compass view and other data such as coordinates, speed etc

Thanks

Hi guys,

with addon are two main issues.

1. I have many reports that it don`t work on SE phones. So I purchased small Xperia X8 for some testing (not only for this add-on of course) and it works correctly. Damn ...

2. problem is with rotation on tablets found. Problem is in this file. In code are visible two different values that works for me. Can anyone confirm this?

also anyone who will improve AR add-on is of course welcome ;)

I have problem with AR plugin too, it doesn`t show POIs at all (but there are dots visible on the little radar thingy bottom left. I have ZTE Blade. I know this is not the highest priority right now, but it`s a nice addition to the Locus, and I partially bought Locus Pro for this plugin, too

AR is the future! Just imagine: you are loading your recorded mountain hike track in AR and you can see it overlayed on the vision of that mountain. Or you are loading Geocaches, and using AR to finding them.

This would be definitely bestseller feature!

shows little white dots in the "circle" but not on the "camera picture". got ics 4.0.4 but was also not working on gingerbread.

(Another question is why it turns off gps while AR view when i enable the option "deaktivieren wenn ausgeschaltet"(german~turn gps off when disabled); same happens with other plugins.)

I use latest version of plugin and app, pro version.

Good day to all,

seems to be two years since last work on this add-on. Maybe time to at least fix these problems:

1. problems on tablets and some devices with orientation

2. not displayed icons on some SE devices

Unfortunately I don`t have problem no. 2 on any of my device, so it will be worst. But problem 1 should be fixed. May someone with this problem confirm it?

Test version: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/8015949/Locu...

Warning: is required Locus 2.8.6+ and Android 2.2+

Hi, any news on this? The file is not downloadable.

I have an xperia arc s and an xperia x8, on both the AR plugin doesn`t work. It shows the white points in the radar, but the poi don`t appear on the screen. On both phones in the radar there aren`t 2 white lines representing the field of view, there`s only one (the two are rendered overlapping?) and the line is also pointing down, not up. ( I saw how the plugin is supposed to look like from this: http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php/manu... )

photo

ah sorry, I had in some of previous days, delete this file by accident. It`s back ready for download.

So no news, because I don`t have any response if any of major problems has any change

1) rotation on tablets

2) problems on Sony Erricson devices

just warning, this version require Android 2.2+

Hi, no changes on my arc S (android 4.04)

my screen look exactly like the screenshot jo posted, so: radar inverted (the line goes down) and only one line is shown instead of the two representing the fov. Maybe the plugin has a problem getting the camera horizontal and vertical view angle?

Hi, it does not work on my Sony Xperia P either. The screen looks like screenshot jo posted... (android 4.0.4)

The marks are still looks like upside down.

The Android version is 4.1.1.

Same here Sony Tablet Z and SE X10 Mini Pro.... No news about this? There are some workaround?

Same problem on Sony Xperia Tablet S. There were other SW that had this problem in the past (e.g. Flightradar24) and they resolved it by application update.

Hi developers, any update on this issue? It's show stopper for me :) I can help you debug / test the experimental builds or even I can try to fix this problem myself if you provide me the source code (NDA is no problem here :)

I'm sure it's possible to fix it quite simply for anyone who knows what to do with these AR stuff. Unfortunately I created this add-on almost three years ago. I did also some updates to new Locus API somewhere around 1.5 year ago, but to be true - now I have "no idea" what happen inside this add-on. Oki, main problem is also a time ...

Anyway add-on was placed all these times on Google code repository. If anyone wants to play with it, it's updated version is now uploaded to public repository here

https://bitbucket.org/asamm/locus-addon-augmented-reality

Basic of Locus API (that is required for this updated version), is here

You really do not have to thank me :). If you're little bit skilled with Android, AR etc. and wants to invest some time into this add-on, feel free to contact me. I may give you advices, improve API if you want to extend it's features and also financial support.

I really want invest time mainly into Locus itself and if anyone take care (or help me with it) of this add-on, it will be more then welcome :)

I just rebuilt the AR addon from the repo and it works :) Could you update it on the google play?

Hello JaroslavGreat news for a great addon.

Is there a "puplic" *.apk to test it?

gynta wrote:

Test build: http://fedorapeople.org/~jskarvad/android/ar.apk

I think the problem has been fixed in the past by code snip adding getRotation() and remapCoordinateSystem() calls in Main.java, but the version published on Google Play doesn't have this.

I am no longer able to reproduce the problem on my device (Xperia Tablet S).

photo
1

It's possible. I did a lot of changes in this add-on around year ago, that should fix this problem. But I was never satisfied with functionality of this add-on, and I wanted more. And who wants more, usually has nothing :).

Anyway thanks for an info, I'll look at it during a week.

Unrelated to this bugzilla. I guess that the original encoding was mangled during the repository upload to bitbucket.org. But the fix is trivial. It would be probably better moving it to strings resource.

Doe's the orientation work for you with the code from repo head?

BTW: Adding the patch as *.txt because this tracker doesn't allow uploading patches (*.patch suffix).

Is there a big problem to publish/update the AR Addon on Google Play as before?

I'm sure, some people would like to have this too.

photo

thanks Jaroslav.

Gynta, let's say, it's not so simple. Anyway I'll try to create something right after new version will be finally out.

Hi people,

because this issue is here already a few years, let's do something with it. Jaroslav already tested current version for me and I'm sure, he should be able to fix some problems that may happen ;).

I compiled new version so if anyone wants, it's possible to test it.

Good day Nicolai,

there is a lot more problems with Augmented reality add-on, but there are currently no plans for any update, sorry.

Are the actual sources public? Google code goes into freeze pretty soon now.

Good day Guys,

Michal (one of my colleague) push me to do something with this add-on. It seems to be four years without update, so he said "we should update it or remove it".

For today I decided to update it. Hard day I have to say and here is the result, if anyone wants to try it.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_Nr4CT8osmtMC1rTmxBVGZtRGs/view?usp=sharing

Source code for add-on is publicly available. But I did some refractoring and added few more comments into code, so it will be easier if anyone will wants to improve it later.

So for now, I hope you will see points on screen ;)

Thank you soo much

I really like this addon. Really great work!

It works now perfectly on galaxy s4 with android 5.0.1

photo
1

Hmm you are fast. So it helped, hmm nice, thanks for test.

photo
1

I hope that this addon will be more developed than before because the idea of this addon is really great.

An nice idea would be that there is the possibillity to select the POI you wanna see on the display in the addon. Because if there are too much POI, you loose the oerview

photo
1

Hmm I'm worried this won't happen from my side. I'm aware that there is a lot of options for this add-on anyway a lot of them required some more skills with 3D, with matrixes etc. and for me, it is usually a "waste of time" full of searching and searching ...

So I see option only if someone skilled with these tasks, will wants to continue in work in this "small" add-on.

Task - "visible only selected points" - anyway have to be done on side of Locus and not this add-on. I see for now not a simple solution anyway.

Hello guys,

AR add-on is already updated on Google Play for a few days. May I ask, if it is finally working for you as expected? So that all points are on place, where should be and not incorrectly rotated as before? Thanks

As I have no responses from you here (positive or negative), I expect, latest update of this add-on solved most of major problems.
