Allow custom SRTM sub-directory

Could you allow changing the SRTM sub-directory to "Android/media" too, like already possible with "maps" or "mapsVector" directories?

Reason: If using multiple apps which are using HGT-files for elevation/hillshading, all apps could access this directory. No need to install the large .HGT files multiple times on the phone.

Hello Sonny,

SRTM files, if I'm not wrong, may be placed anywhere on your device. There is an option to use "Custom selection". Does it work for you?

Running Locus 3.63.1 on Android 12, I just receive a message window: "We're sorry but this version of OS Android does not allow setting up a custom directory."

Opposite to opening "maps" or "mapsVector" settings, where choosing "Private 'Android/media' folder in the internal storage" is offered to select

Ah, you are right. I'm using Locus Map 4 with "All files access" permission, where this is possible and completely forget limitations without this permission.

I do not like the "media" directory to be true. I still think it will be soon or later removed or its functionality limited. Also, there are not many apps that are capable of using HGT files. So I would rather keep it as is, without adding extra options that may complicate the current over-complicated system even more. Thanks for understanding.

Although I understand you Menion, it's a pity, cause for example recently the popular Geocaching app c:geo is able to use .hgt files for shading. Not speak of other mapping apps installed on the phone.
Why is it not possible to simply implement the same permissions as already done for the maps-dirctories? That would not add any extra complication as already present with the maps sub-directories. And if some day the "media" directory will be removed or its functionality limited - you have to rework Locus' anyway, cause of the map subdirectories offering the Media-directory path.

I hoped you won't write this :).

It all looks like a more general task: "Locus Map in the 'media' directory" - anyway it is overkill for me. Also, I had a partially working solution to place HGT files in ANY directory. But it was slow so I left it be.

...

After long thinking ... sorry, I simply do not want to do this. It still looks to me like a complex task that needs some "better" universal solution, not just a separate solution for maps, now HGT files, etc.
