Adding app link by package name as alternate to limited app picking on Android 11

Hi, i would love to add my wanted app to gui as button but it is not possible cause it is not listed.

Caused by the app listing limits from Android 11 it should be possible to add the package name of the wanted app manually to allow adding.

If there is an alternate way let me know :-)

Hello,

I'm not sure if this will work, because even if you will be able to add and shortcut to the function panel, Locus Map still won't be able to call added application.

I've not tried it, but the solution should be adding a shortcut over the Tasker application. In case of questions related to the tasker, suggest asking more experienced users in the Locus Map forum here.

Hm why should it not work - other apps can be added and started without problems by your picker ?

Can you send intents from Maps ? It would be really helpful to add custom apps or custom buttons which send intents - main missing part is a general media control while using maps without leaving maps to the other app.

I've now verified that this really can't work. I tried to start basic Google Mail from the function panel and the result is `android.content.ActivityNotFoundException: No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW pkg=com.google.android.gm (has extras) }`

I do not know how skilled you are with Android development. Anyway, only apps that are hardcoded in the app's main configuration file can't be started directly. Or if the app has special permission that allows this (that Locus Map does not have but the Tasker app has).

I'm no dev - only enhanced user daily working with android devices in business :-)

But the rights are not the problem i think. To call the app the view action seems be wrong and enhanced rights are not part of it.

I checked it with the app Intent (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=krow.dev.scheme) which does no require any special rights and i'm be able to launch an app with an intent:

ACTION: none

Package Name: ak.alizandro.smartaudiobookplayer (my app i tried / also checked with org.mozilla.firefox)

CATEGORY: nothing selected

All other parts empty

Give it a try :-)

Hmm surprising. Intent without ACTION seems to work, nice, thanks :).

I'm re-opening the idea then.

Yes funny world :-) Possible this will open the way for a more comfortable app linking :-)

You're welcome :-)
