v4.13 winter theme revamp: feedback for cross country skiing

In the blog post for v4.13, the new winter theme was announced. Interesting ๐Ÿ™‚ I tried it, see it as a good start, and here some feedback what I would like as further improvement ๐Ÿ™‚

a) I would like some indication of pistes already in 2 lower zoom levels, so I can find pistes with much less panning around in high zoom level. IMHO, it's absolutely OK to display only an icon/point instead the track which is probably looking weird on that zoom level.

b) I would like to see how difficult a cross country ski piste is, i.e. blue/red/black and the current cyan for anything else (no information, unexpected value,...). That helps to estimate whether it's worth looking into details of a certain piste. These 3 colors are used in Germany, by LoMaps for downhill pistes, by OAM Element winter fork, and OsmAnd. It seems they are also used in Austria and Switzerland, but I am not sure. To avoid confusion with downhill pistes, an icon could be repeated every 200-300pixels to tell them apart, or the cross county pistes may mainly stay cyan but have a blue/red/black dot or slash every few pixels.

c) Do you see a simple way to show meta information for pistes? I mean a table with piste details (classic/skating, oneway, amount of lanes, network, operator, URL,...) similar as the existing table for LoPoints. So maybe, in winter theme, you could simply add a "virtual" LoPoint every 300 Pixels along a piste โ€“ allowing to re-use the existing logic, GUI etc. and being much more detailed than xctrails.org's top banner.

Best regards,

Georg

Thank you for feedback and idea.
a) - I already thought about it. We are relying on Thunderforest data, but I think it might be possible to display the piste lines from zl=12 (they are now showing from zl=13).

b) - I thought about small symbols along the route to indicate the difficulty - instead of the color of the whole line

c) - I'm sorry, but it's more complicated than that. We can't do it with just the map theme (except for one-way symbols). Anyway, maybe it would be possible to add them to LoPoints sometime in the future.

Thanks, Petr

b) Color is more common in my "visibility horizon", icon is IMHO also fine and could also transport more information without forcing users to look into the legend (e.g. classic vs skating style, 1 or more lanes by having 1 or 2 persons in the icon,...)

c) sure, the sketched approach is not only touching map theme but also LoPoints DB ๐Ÿ™‚ Maybe both can be combined in the sense depending on theme, some LoPoint types appear or hide.
