User maps - OS GB

Solved

Hi
I'm trying to add OS maps to Locus based on the info here : https://dashwood.me.uk/2022/04/19/adding-bing-maps-including-os-to-locus-maps-classic/

I just installed and took the two week 'gold' trial

The path in the current version does not match their instructions is actually like this

/menion.android.locus/files/Locus/maps

I made a custom folder there and added a providers.xml (attached) - no joy

I also made one called mapsOnline and put it there - neither worked

Any advice please

Tks

Hello,

you don't have to create any folder. All these folders are Locus's default. If you have to create them, then there is something wrong or you are not in the right directory.

Anyway - I put your file into the ".../Locus/mapsOnline/custom" folder and it works.

The only thing is, that OS works only above Endgland and there are only 12-14 zooms, so if you are in lower zoom (1-11) it seems that map doesn't work.

PS: if you need to cover ZL 1-11, you can download the OAM world map for ZL 1-11 and establish it via settings - maps - advanced - pre-load global map

Thanks for the response but I do not have a mapsOnline folder - I only have 'maps' and 'mapsVector'

This is new install of the current version on the Play store

Hello,

did you change any settings after installation?

Can you send me a screenshot of this: "Menu > About the app/Helpdesk > App info"

And please write me the full path of the directory where you put the file.

Thank you.

No - fresh install

Full path is internal storage > android > data > menion.android.locus > files > Locus where I see maps and mapsVector

The about page says main storage is on the sd card - I don't have one mounted and didn't when it was installed so no idea why its trying to look there - see locus.jpg attached

in settings its showing sdcard for all paths - see files.jpg attached

Hello,

this is interesting because Locus always creates those folders, so it should be there. If you don't have anything recorded/planned yet, you can try uninstall, delete every file that remains and install it again from scratch.

The "sdcard" is a weird way how Android says "internal memory"... It's a historical relic used to confuse users :-)
When a real SD card is used, then it is usually named Ext_sdcard, or External memory or so... So it is ok.

I uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled form the Play store

1. I got exactly the same folder structure as before - maps & mapsVector

2. I lost my (trial) premium access

Just to be certain we are on the same sheet I am installing Locus maps 4 outdoor navigation not the older Locus map 3 classic which is also listed on Play

tks

Hello,

please, can you tell me the exact path where you have Locus installed and the path where you are trying to put the file?

If you do the same installation as before, your default directory is in internal memory ("sdcard/Locus") so if you are trying to put the files into the "Android/data..." Locus doesn't search for them there.

oops - my bad - I was looking in the android/data folder and I now found a Lotus folder in root which i guess is the fake Sdcard place. Yeahm I have OS maps - thank you. Now to try the geocaching add on and get my free premium trial reinstated......

Hello,

I am glad you manage it.

Your premium is still valid, you only have to log into the Locus store with the same credentials (and method) as before. It will be active immediately then.

If you want, we have expanded the possibilities of working with geocaching recently, so maybe you don't need the add-on (whose future is somewhat uncertain): https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:geocaching:gc_in_locus
