Web Planner route line customisation

Gathering feedback

I would like to edit the route line eg make wider and translucent so I can see what type of feature is under the route line.
This is useful when I have a lot of routes in my library and can get a better understanding of what surfaces are involved for each. ie so not so much in the initial creation but choosing a route from one in my library.

Not just this, but also show track styles and allow editing of track styles just like it is possible to do on the App. Also, when syncing routes/tracks with the web planner and the app, the web planner doesn't show any of the colour/style customisations that were made in the app to the route or track.

Hi. Yesterday I have bought subscription after many years of using Locus Classic. I bought it because of planer. Now I see that I cant change the colour of tracks and all my tracks are gray. How to plan anything if everything looks the same. This thread has two years and still free planers are better than locus planer :/ (except cloud). I paid for this but i really consider to come back to classic locus and get rid of this planer. So dissapointed.

Everyone, the issue here is most likely there isn't a web-specific version of the rendering engine the native app is using (mapsforge?) Hence, every more advanced feature will have to be reimplemented for the browser.

I'm not Locus dev, but i can guess this unfortunately will take some time to make it nearly feature complete vs. the app. And the reality is the subscription model is better to actually maintain constant work on the app (and webplanner too) than one-time payments for classic pro (albeit sometimes in the process they also break something i liked ;)

Is this been worked on?

I see there is not much comments or votes, but there was more than 1k views, and I was one those that viewed, but didn't interact, and this is something I'd really like to see happening.

Hi everyone,

Good news! Work on line style for saved tracks is currently in progress. 🎉

Once released (eta 1-2 weeks), you'll be able to edit the line style directly in the Web Planner (with the similar functionality you know from the Locus Map app), and the style will be reflected in the track detail.

What won't be part of this first iteration:

  • Line styles for multiple tracks highlighted on the map at once
  • Editing line styles in other contexts — e.g. in the planner itself

These are on our radar for follow-up improvements, but we wanted to ship the core functionality first so you can finally get your tracks out of the "everything is grey" state.

See the screenshot below for a preview of how it will look.

Thanks for your patience and for the votes — they really do help us prioritize!

Hi everyone,

It's here! 🎉 Line style for saved tracks is now released.

You can edit the line style of your saved tracks directly in the Web Planner, and it's reflected in the track detail — no more "everything is grey"!

Give it a try and let us know what you think — feedback is very welcome.

Thanks again for your patience and for all the votes that helped us prioritize this! 🙏

very well done - I checked a sample of my recorded tracks from folders which had various line styles - all looked accurate

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but...

When I don't select any track, but just open folder and have all tracks displayed, they're still all displayed the same, though you can see that each track has it's own color selected.

When I select a single track, that one is displayed using the selected style, and all the other tracks are displayed in the same color as above:

This blue was the default style of the folder, but even after I changed it, the lines still remain blue.

Can this be fixed?

Hi Denis,

yes, as mentioned above, this is a known limitation at the moment. The thing is that a single track can be colored by attributes like elevation, heart rate, speed, etc. — which requires additional data beyond just the basic style (color, line width, outline). This makes the payload grow significantly, and we need to keep things small and fast, especially when displaying many tracks at once. So it's a bigger task than it might appear at first glance.

It's planned to address this, but I don't think it is at the top of the priority list right now.

Could you describe your use case a bit more? That would really help us understand the demand — are you mainly looking for simple per-track coloring (each track in its own solid color), or would you also need the advanced coloring based on data attributes like elevation or heart rate?

Hi Ondrej,

I use the app for off-roading and a little bit of hiking (as a side-activity), and when planning routes, I have a bunch of tracks displayed - some of my own recorded, and some from other people (it could be from someone I know, or just downloaded from internet)

When they are in different colors it's much easier to plan as I can immediately see if I already went there, or someone else, and then it's easier to decide which way to go.

When all tracks are in same color, it takes a lot of going (clicking) back&forward to figure out which is which.

The coloring modes you made is spectacular, but for this, each track in solid color is perfectly fine. Here is a screenshot from an old Garmin's Mapsource that I use alongside Locus:

And this is just fine for this purpose.
