If i can ask... just curious... there are so many apps that are using google maps... i could even say that there are so few that are not using google maps...

so.. what terms prohibit using googlemaps in locus?

I dont need googlemap, i am just curious why locus not if so many app can...

Ulmus, could you mention any apps that use Google Maps that you think are very good?

I find this to be the biggest shortcoming of Locus. It is the only app I have used that does not support live Google map/satellite view.

These apps all have Google support.

Android: CacheSense, GCDroid, Groundspeak Geocaching, c:geo.

Apple: Cachly, Looking4Cache, Groundspeak Geocaching, Geosphere.

I don't know which apps are using Google legally or illegally. I just really miss the option to call up a live satellite view showing my position and waypoint positions. This is especially valuable in urban environments.

Estimate

50 % of these app use Google Maps illegaly

50 % use their official Google Maps API, so they are allowed to use them.

Anyway Google Maps API is complete system with rendering mechanism etc. Locus use own map core so only possibility is to access map data directly. And this way it's not possible. Unfortunately.

if i can share one of my observations about google maps...

once i was checking if maps are accurate... i had gps receiver with precission about 1m and less and i noticed that googlemap show my position pretty ideal but other maps has about upto 5 meters shift... so.. are google maps so precise? strange... but it's true. Maybe my region has so bad maps :)

It's not exactly to this topic, but .. ehm, 1 meter precision is not yet simply possible on mobile devices. 5 meters should be possible with devices that support GPS & Glonass satellites and you have really good view on a sky.

Yeah, i have gps with Glonas and WAAS/EGNOS too.

If u cannot use google api, can u give us a feature that would put the GPS coordinates of the crosshairs location in the clipboard in a format compatible for the search bar in google maps application? I would find that workaround acceptable.

I use that feature in avenza maps. They offer a "view in google maps" long press menu item that opens the Google maps app centered on the current avenza map view. That would be a legal command line call in my opinion

You can use google map directly in Locus.

Or use a link from Locus (navigate through google, street .....)

Or google maps understand any format of the co-ordinate.

Try out ;-)

"give us a feature that would put the GPS coordinates of the crosshairs location in the clipboard in a format compatible for the search bar in google maps application"

Does that not work for you now? It works for me (V3.29.2).

It is not an obvious feature, the documentation does not have info. So, could u please explain how? I have spent hours looking for it...

Locus Map's documentation is very good but there are some so many new features and improvements being added that it's hard to keep the documentation up to date! The feature you need was added in V3.23. Scroll to the bottom of this announcement page for instructions: Quick clipboard copying of coordinates

For convenience, you can also add a button, to the function panel, that opens Google Maps. Scroll to the bottom of this documentation page: Add link to app.

Like @Condor suggested, it's also possible to display Google Maps directly within Locus Map. I don't believe I'm allowed to explain in detail how it is done (on the Locus forum) since the official position is it is illegal for the Locus Map product to distribute access to Google Maps.

I think I can safely say that it is done with custom online maps and there's a conversation in this thread that provides some (veiled) guidance.
