Update existing offline maps

I often use offline maps (of OSM), but after some months or years, these maps are out of date. So I need to delete them and to recreate a new offline map.

I would prefer to have an update action for an offline map to update those maps with the current tiles from the associated map source.

Good day Thomas,

because such feature (exactly what you need) do not exists, let's voting begin :). Anyway I wants also suggest alternative solution.

Try to use common downloading mechanism for Locus maps. In step, where you choose type of download, select "SQL external" and pick your already downloaded map. On same screen - http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:functions:map_download#final_confirmation - choose "Overwrite older tiles" and define max age in days, for a tiles you wants to keep.

This solution has disadvantage, that you have to define area where to download and also a type of map that match to your already existing file. Anyway it's little bit complicated, but working solution.

I already use your suggested alternative solution. My problem is, that my offline maps (for mtb) are covering large areas, but almost only mountain / forrest space. So the mentioned disadvantage is a serious one for me, because my selected areas are very far away from beeing a rectangle ... ;)

You can modify the rectangle by drag and move corners...

Thanks. That is what I am doing resulting in some 30to40-side-figures, which are hard to reproduce for updating the map. ;)

what a pity :)

Hi Thomas, I was thinking exactly about this feature few days ago and I already have an idea how to do it. But amount of required work and it's usage for most users (they probably not need it), leave this idea on later ... and well, 10 votes also do not convince me, so sorry for now, no better solution.

Hi Menion. I see and hope for more votes ... ;) The offline maps are sqllite databases, aren't they? Can you provide some documentation to these databases, so I may write an own tool to update them. TIA.

This solution also has a problem, if the map is large and the provider only allows to download "some" tiles per day (e.g. Hike & Bike "only" allows to download 10.000 tiles per day).

Because of that, Locus Map shouldn't download a tile, if it hasn't changed. Or will "Overwrite older tiles" take care of this?

And finally, is it really true, that after 3 years, this feature still isn't there?

Maybe a function to list all the existing downloaded vector maps where an update is available. Then user can chose via tick boxes which maps to update. I don't want maps automatically updated in the background, but I also don't want to check each map via the Store comparing current and store dates. A simple list is the most efficient way for me.

The new Update function in 3.8.0 is really nice. Well done. I hadn't realized the difference between Download and Update icons until very recently when I read discussion in different topic. Hopefully new online manual will cover these differences.

Hi Andrew

same topic - but also different.

Topic starter talk about downloaded online maps.

You talk about (vector)maps from store.

Thanks for clarifying ...

I use openandromaps a lot. There you only have to download the latest one and it just overwrites the current one. But you have use the Locus button on the download page (click on the plus + sign)
