Track recording frequently doesn't work

I've been using the Locus Map Android app for nearly 4 years and it's been fine, but just recently I've found that when I ask it to start track recording, it often doesn't. The distance walked stays at zero and no red line appears on the map.

Often I can get it to work by quitting the app and starting again, or failing that, rebooting my phone. But something seems to have changed recently that makes the track recording unreliable.

Once it starts recording, then it continues recording without problems. It's just getting it started that's the problem.

I'm using version 4.29.0 on Android 11.

Any ideas?

Hi Adam,

please get Locus Map permission for all-time access to the location and exclude Locus from all means of battery optimization so that the app can run in the background, see http://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:gps_lost_fix_android6. Also, switch Google Services assisted location off in Locus settings - GPS&sensors.

Thanks. I already had permission for all-time access to the location and had Google Services assisted location switched off.

I think there may have been some battery optimisation switched on, and I think I have now switched it off, though can't be 100% sure of that as the instructions for doing that were manufacturer-specific, and my phone manufacturer (Cubot) isn't on your list.

Let's see how I get on with the new battery optimisation settings.
