Crashing when attempting to access long track
Not a Problem
I have just completed a 21 day trip and have merged the daily tracks into a single track. This track is 4200km long. I want to rename it then export KML and GPX files. If I tap the track or flag it for display Locus says it isn't responding cycles the prompt if I tap wait and restarts if I tap ok
Locus Map 3 used to have no problem doing this
It appears I wasn't waiting long enough
Every action with this very long track leads to Locus not responding

Hi Roland,
did you try long-pressing the track in the library and then selecting the actions for editing or export?

If I long press (which doesn't have a delay/wait message) edit and export aren't among the available options

Roland, what about tapping the track in the library (not the yey button next to it), opening its detail and then edit or exort from the topbar? Does it work?

Tapping the track in the library is what I'm doing. Sorry if I phrased my initial post badly
I have found that ignoring the OK/wait prompt and just wait for a long time, Locus eventually gets there and I can export/rename. Locus 4 is very much slower at doing this that Locus Classic so I assumed it wouldn't get there. A prompt which asks if I want to wait, followed immediately by the same prompt if I tap wait, looks like something which is simply faulty rather than excessively slow.

Could you please send a GPX of the track for a test? Thanks

GPX file is 71k
How/where should I send it as I can't attach it here

It is possible to attach a 2 MB file here. If it is for some reason impossible, please store it to some cloud (Dropbox, GDRive...) and send a sharing link. Thanks!

I've redone the link and specified that anyone with the link can view. There isn't a download option

Thanks. I've tested it and both LM4 and LMC react similarly - both have problems handling such a long track and are lagging. 4200 km long track is obviously too much for the app resources.

You don't usually need such a long route. You can probably find a way to divide the route into two or three parts online.

Incorrect
This track is a similar length and was created in the same way by appending all daily tracks into a single 'trip track'. Locus 4 doesn't have the same loading problem. I haven't ever had a problem with Locus Classic where I do this for every single holiday we have

Roland, the second track is much smaller (just around 13 MB, 54719 trackpoints) . The first track is really huge - 72 MB, 304338 trackpoints. Even GPS Visualizer crashed and refused to open the file.

I'm looking at track length rather than size on disk.
The problem one is 4205km 263 hours
The other is 4150km 169 hours
Not the same but in the same region
I can't see the number of trackpoints, where do I see that.
Having full trip tracks in this region is routine for me. I record daily tracks and at the end of the trip create a trip track by appending all of the days. I use this trip track to map photos to locations and to answer the occasional "where did we go" question.
On our next trip I'll be using different tracking settings to get hopefully less but still enough trackpoints. There unfortunately isn't an option to record at variable settings based on speed. I want enough while walking and not too many while driving.

I understand your point but regarding the app, it considers the data size of the file. You probably used a different track recording profile setup. One profile with short intervals between recording track points (creating a big file) and one with less dense recording.
"I can't see the number of trackpoints, where do I see that."

"On our next trip I'll be using different tracking settings to get hopefully less but still enough trackpoints."
- yes, that's the solution
"There unfortunately isn't an option to record at variable settings based on speed. I want enough while walking and not too many while driving."
- using different track recording profiles for differnt activities or means of transport is a must. Locus Map enables creating multiple profiles. The faster movement is, the less dense trackpoint recording is recommended. More at https://docs.locusmap.app/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tracks:recording:profiles_settings#parameters.

Thanks for confirming that I can't see the number of trackpoints within Locus and that I wasn't missing something.
I'm aware of the importance of track recording parameters, having been using Locus Classic for some years. Changing profile within each day isn't a viable option. I would end up with 30+ tracks per day which is a mixture of driving/walking/sitting/whatever frequently for short intervals. I'm reasonably sure that the tracking parameters I used for this trip would have recorded fewer points than my Classic ones, but I don't have a backup that old to check my old settings. I do remember that the supplied track profiles are different between the two versions and there wasn't a suitable 'out of the box' option to choose with the current version. As I said, I have changed them for my next trip to record fewer points while driving by increasing the distance. I'll see how that goes.
