Help!

My Sony Xperia 1V updated itself to new version of Android 15 and a new version of Xperia UI.

Since then my Locus Pro lost all of my stored Waypoints and all of my stored Routes!

I tried using Last Locus Backup, but eben this failed.

Locus seems to have lost access to the folder Android in my external SD in my Sony Xperia 1V.

Unfortunately I can't access these folders with all of my File managers as well.

What can I do to get back my stored waypoints and routes?

Yours

Uwe

Hi Uwe,

re-install Locus Map and keep it in the internal storage. Then, restore the backup. It seems your external SD card failed. We strongly recommend not using it for the main app directory - more info at https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:locus_on_external_sdcard

Dear Michal,

up to the date when my Xperia 1 V updated itself last week, there has never been a problem using my Locus Pro on my SD card!

And I have been using it for about 15 years now!

I checked my SD card!

It has no malfunktion, all data is consistant!

The only problem now is, Locus can't access the folder SD-card/android/menion/data anymore!

I have no idea why!

So reinstalling on internal storage will not help, because I can't access the folder with the backup files!

I urgently need back my private waypoints and private routes, which I have collected in the last 15 years!

Since last week they are completely gone and the respective folders in Locus Pro are empty!

How can I make Locus Pro get back access to the SD card?

Yours,

Uwe

Do you have a backup in the cloud? Or access the SD card with the PC and save the backup.

I think it's because of Android. With Android 15 you may no longer have access to the SD. Or only apps with special authorization.

Thank you for your reply.

Until the last update last week my Locus Pro had access to its folder on the SD.

I already had Android 15 before last week!

Please, as the developers make Locus Pro regain access to SD Card again!

I managed through a very complicated and complex procedure with an App called iAdb to access the Android Data folders and could find the last automated backup of Locus Pro.

It is a Zip File.

How shall I proceed with this file to get back all my private waypoints and routes I collected in the last 15 years?

Yours,

Uwe

External SD card should behave the same way as the internal storage. So please try this:

- install Locus Map to the internal storage

- go to settings > miscellaneous > default directories > set the main directory > tap "select" in the action menu of the "Private folder on SD card":

- restart Locus Map

If you have the backuo zip, save it where Locus has access. Or on Google Drive/Dropbox/OneDrive.

Then Settings > Backup and file system > Backup Manager > Restore backup > Select source

(Auf Deutsch: Einstellungen > Backup und Dateisystem > Backup Manager > Sicherung wiederherstellen > Quelle auswählen)

Ich drücke dir die Daumen.

And in future, also save the backups regularly and automatically in the cloud!

I don't understand what you mean.

Should I Install Locus Pro in internal storage and after that set private folder to SD Card?

The loss of access to SD card seems to cause all the trouble.

Yes, this way you may try to reconnect it.

Please look at my current settings, which lead to the loss of my private waypoints and private routes I have collected within the last 15 years.

The single route you can see I created after the crash.

There used to be hundreds of waypoints and routes before the last update of my Sony Xperia 1V last week!

All of them vanished!

Did you see my screenshots?

Locus Pro seems to be installed in internal storage already!

I really don't understand what happened after this update!

OK, your Locus Map is installed in the inteernal storage. Now please go to settings > miscellaneous > default directories > set the main directory > tap "select" in the action menu of the "Private folder on SD card":

I just loaded the last backup I could save from SD/Android/Data being in delevoper mode using iADB.

I first copied it to a folder Locus Pro still has access to.

I managed to get back the state of the last automated backup of 16. June!

But I still don't know what went wrong and what I can do to preventbthis desaster in the future!

Please remember:

Before the extraordinary complex procedure of switching my smartphone to developer mode using iADB Locus Pro didn't have any access to its automated backups!

Uwe, nothing of that was necessary. You could just follow my instructions to SELECT the SD-based Locus Map directory.

I don't understand what you mean.

I always had Locus Pro running on internal storage and private folders on SD!

So, what should I change?

Private folders are in default folders in SD selected by Locus Pro itself.

But, this causes the problem that you can't access the backup files there!

Look at my screenshots!

This is exactly what I have had all the time!

Do you think I should switch to private folders in internal storage and after that back to SD?

I still don't know what went wrong!

Please look at this!

Actually this should be alright?

But nevertheless it lead to the loss!

Yes, if you prefer to have the main directory on the SD card, it is alright. Honestly, I don't know what happened during the phone upgrade to A15 but I would personally avoid having important data on the SD card. It is unstable and the internal database may get damaged. This is the recommended setup: https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:faq:locus_on_external_sdcard#locus_in_internal_and_some_data_in_external_storage_-_recommended

Plus, always set automatic backups to a cloud: https://docs.locusmap.eu/doku.php?id=manual:user_guide:tools:backup#automatic_backup

I tried again.

Locus Pro only has access to the backup folder in internal storage.

But there are only backup files from last years before I switched to private folders in SD.

Locus Pro still has no access to SD/Android/data!

So, I still can't load current backup files without switching to developer mode!

Please remember Android 15 had been on my smartphone before the crash of Locus Pro.

On 19. June seems to have been only a UI upddate of Sony Xperia.

Look at my screenshot of update history!

Developers, please change the default standard private folder for the backups!

At current it is in Android\data.

But there you cannot access the files, when you need them to restore Locus Pro after a crash!

I now changed mine to Android/media.

There Android grants full access to normal Users!

Look at my screenshot!
