Web Planner: Search not showing or centering to selected point

Alan G shared this problem 28 days ago
Solved

Search for a point/location, select target from result list - the point details are shown in left hand details pane but the icon of the point does not show on the map and the map does not move to the point. The icon only appears if you drag the map.

Seems to work OK for some categories - like towns, cities etc, but not for most others.

For example search for and select Mettelhorn - map doesn't move. Do same for Eiffel Tower - it moves.

Even worse - paste lat/lng into search box, select from result list - nothing happens. Previously it would move to the point which is a great way of moving around the map.

This was working OK yesterday I think, so latest change (1.57.0) might have caused it.

Also when you close the details pane the icon does not get removed until you drag the map or change zoom level.

If search for and add a route point using the itinerary input box , then it does center the route on the map and changes the zoom, so that hasn't changed. Actually I really don't like this. When planning a route if I've positioned the map where I want it and set the zoom I want then I don't want those changing just because I add a point using the search/select method. If it needs adjusting then I can do that myself.

So now IMO its the wrong way round - search box not positioning the map, but route planning itinerary search/select point does move it.

thanks for alerting me to the exciting new improvements

Mettelhorn - the map correctly moves for me - tested with Android tablet & Vivaldi web browser

Hi Andrew,

I re-checked it and what I see is that if you start the Web Planner with the default link so that the displayed URL is https://web.locusmap.app/en/plan then the map moves to the searched/selected point OK. However as soon as you move the map (drag) then it stops working. Or if you start the Web Planner with coordinates in the URL then the search/move doesn't work at all. Tested in Chrome, Firefox and Vivaldi.

Looks like if the URL has coordinates in it that is overriding those from the point so the map doesn't move. But only for some point categories.

Could you re-test it after dragging the map ?

Hi Alan, rechecked & working as far as I can tell. Of course from a tablet it is a tedious UX but possible. As I drag the map, the coords are updated in the URL.

Ah, sorry I mis-read your comment - you meant using Vivaldi on a tablet. I was referring to using Web Planner on a PC. Anyway I also tried using Web Planner with Chrome on an Android tablet and I still get the issue. I've no idea why you don't see it. No matter what I do I cannot stop it happening. I guess there must be some additional factor involved but no idea what.

Additional thing I noticed now: if I drag the map it automatically puts it into Plan Mode (and triggers the drop down of previously searched points in the first itinerary combobox). I don't think it did this before yesterday but can't check now obviously.

Lets see if support can reproduce it.

Hi,

issue simulated on the version 1.57.0, thanks for reporting it. Forwarded to the devs.

Looks like V1.57.1 has fixed this for searching for a point by name. However it still is not working properly for entered Lat/Lng. The icon appears but the map does not move. Not much use if the point is not on the already displayed screen - maybe a long way away.

The issue is not yet properly fixed.

now having access to a PC instead of tablet - entering coord for web planner PLAN eg. -42.8605120,147.2948810 - the map is scrolled into position - it's working for me

1.57.3 has been implemented with fix "Fixed map not zooming to clicked coordinates", so it's working for me now also. Don't know exact time that was done, so maybe we will never know whether you would have seen the issue before that fix ?

I wonder why our experience is different. I tried both points & the map panned fine on the tablet. Will test from PC in a few days time.
