Show hidden geocaching children waypoints

Martin shared this idea 8 years ago

Hi,

some geocaches come with hidden waypoints children waypoints for stages or the final, which Locus does not import.

Only the parking waypoint, which has coordinates, gets imported.

In most cases this is no problem, but there are children waypoints with important details like Rot13-coded hints for these stages.

For example:

http://coord.info/GC54243

The Final Waypoint "FN54243" has Details which are important for the geocache.

Is there a way to import these hidden waypoints as well?

Not for showing them on the map, because they dont have any coordinates.

But for having these hints in Locus.

Hi Martin,

how do you import this Geocache to locus? please discribe it.

For me it works, all WPT´s are visible in list tab of cache disciption

As i know decoding Rot13-code inside WPT list isn´t possible.

Hm, i See ... it makes a difference if i use the API or PQs to import caches.

But why arent the children waypoints imported if i choose the PQ way?

Hi Martin,

i think this is a special behavior of this Geocache (Listing)

I have created a PQ with 5 caches arround it, and only from this cache the WPT´s are not loaded after installing the PQ, after update cache they are visible

in all other caches the WPT´s are visible without cacheupdate

I think menion can take a lock on it, try attached PQ

Hmm I'm not sure I understand. In PQ wpt file, is only single waypoint for cache GC54243 called 'PK54243' (last in file). No final waypoint is in this PQ file ...

Maybe the problem is with waypoints (eg Final) that are visible ONLY to the owner. And the owner is the one trying to see those waypoints.

I've noticed this. I'll be looking at a cache (mine, a puzzle), and see nothing in the Waypoints tab. Tap the puzzle-piece icon at the bottom, "Update cache", same result.

Does the API not return these "owner-only" waypoints, or is it perhaps a G4L issue?

Im not the owner.

Owners have the option to show these waypoints to the cachers, or to hide them.

In PQ waypoint file there are only waypoints with real coordinates.

If you open the normal waypoint file, not the one for additional waypoint, you will find a list of additional waypoints.

result after some tests:

- downloading geocaches with GC4L, all WPT´s are available

- downloading gpx file from cachelisting, all WPT´s are available

- in created PQ´s , only WPT´s with coordinates are available.

So after importing a PQ, run "update cache" to complete PQ caches, after that all WPT´s are visible in listing tab

For this I need connection to the Internet - for every single Cache.

On vacation in other countries I use the PQs to fill my Locus when I have WLAN, but on my tours I haven't got any connection to the Internet.

Wouldn't it better of Locus could parse the information in the PQs to generate the waypoints?

All information are in the PQ.

Are they inside? In PQ that balloni shared, there were no final waypoint.

Well, let's start from scratch as I'm quite lost in this discussion.

If you have any PQ, that contains data that are not available after import in Locus, please share this file so I may test it.

In Line 60 of the 15574577.gpx you find the information to the waypoints, like ROT13-coded hints.

This wpt info is in .gpx but not in wpts.gpx

Thats correct. Is this a problem?

If waypoint is not directly in -wpts.gpx file, then it is not possible to correctly load it and display in Locus, sorry.

@ Martin

  1. On vacation in other countries I use the PQs to fill my Locus when I have WLAN

so make directly cache update after PQ is loaded for complete folder

@menion

GS never insert data of wpt´s without coords to PQ,

so my proposal, please provide a option for "cache update" for complete PQ direct after it is loaded.

All around "updating" is done in external add-on, so not simply possible. You may import data to any folder, sort them by last update, select first 1000 and update from bottom menu in folder. Not fastest, but should work.
