IBP Index support

Gathering feedback

I would appreciate IBP index integration. This is a very useful tool that helps estimating the effort of a planned tour by calculating a number that indicates the effort for hiking, cycling, or mountainbiking. It uses a gpx file for calculating. https://www.ibpindex.com/index.php/en/

Best, Lucas

Sounds interesting. It would be nice if the algorithm was open source, though.

As it is not, Locus Team would have to use the API (request an API key)...

I found some unused space perfectly suitable for IBP functionality ;)

Some notice from this theme?

Hi guys,

as I'm looking on the official web site, their blog posts, their facebook ... it all looks a little "dead". Are you still using this service?

To me, it looks like as unreliable partner that may end every moment.

What is your motivation to use it? Being able to compare own tracks?

Isn't then better using some widely used algorithm, that may also be computed offline without sending data to any other web service?

I have been using that service for years. I find it very interesting.

Does the Locus team have plans to develop a similar tool that does not rely on an external website?

It is mainly used by FFRP: https://www.ffrandonnee.fr/randonner/securite/cotation-des-randonnees-pedestres

Interesting to compare tracks, and also to judge if a track is not too difficult for your level.

Same here. Main motivation is to estimate the intensity of a planned track and to compare a planned track with tracks I already did.

My wife has a different fitness level, and the index helps me to better estimate if a track I planned is suitable for her.

If there would be an offline algorithm that did a similar job, that would be even better than a 3rd party service and highly appreciated :)

IBP index seems good for runing or bicycle on road. Every activity where the material of the surface and quality of the surface are good.

For Hicking, MTB, Gravel, the surface (material and "quality") has a major impact on the effort.

And I do not talk about technical complexity used for level rating on tracks for hiking and MTB.
