New sync on iOS with old account causes mass deletion

I've just reactivated my "old" locus account with a Gold subscription, to use with the Lite edition.

The web planner shows my account still has all my old tracks and points, and I would like to sync these to my iOS device. However, when activating sync, I saw the status message stating it was deleting points, so I quickly stopped it.

How do I sync to iOS without it deleting everything?

Currently I see no way to retrieve my tracks and points without an Android device, which I currently don't have with me. The web planner doesn't show a way of exporting tracks/points.

Perhaps you still have old points on your iOS device that you have since deleted on the web (or on another device). Sync creates a snapshot of the library's current state, which includes deleting old tracks and points and uploading new ones.

It is possible that the status message appears during synchronisation even if no points are actually deleted, but the check is part of the process.

The tracks on iOS were never on the online account and vice versa, so I assume it just assumed the iOS state was the desired state and went ahead to get to that state online.

Since I can't make a backup, I'll wait until an Android device comes along then, before I start experimenting. The explicit message was that it was deleting points, so I hope I can trust that it was actually doing so.

What I'd like to see is a(n initial) sync option to not delete anything but just merge whatever is there on both sides.

Hi Ruben,

I’ve checked the account linked to your email and found no deleted items on the server, so nothing should be removed from the cloud when you sync. The only way points could disappear is if they were already deleted locally on your iOS device and those deletions are being pushed to the cloud during sync.

You can still export your data from the web planner: open the folder that contains the items, select everything and click Export. I’ve attached a screenshot to show where the button is.

Let me know if you need further assistance!

Kind regards,
Ondrej

Ah I had missed that option, I was looking for exporting at a parent level.

I've made a backup of the points and tracks I wish to keep, and it's now running the sync on iOS. It was showing "deleting waypoints" for a few thousand points, but is now at sending/receiving points to/from the server. So it seems to be going well.

Still don't know which points it was deleting, but it should be good now :-)

Thanks!
