Refresh online search world icon if state of data comms changes

Andrew Heard shared this problem 20 days ago
Not a Problem

For an online search, if data communication is still starting (possibly the reverse is true too), the crossed out "world" icon - ref screen cap below - is visible. It appears the check is only made once; I had to exit the search & re-enter to be hidden, and search to work:

Hi Andrew,

we couldn't simulate the issue. Does it happen to you regularly? If yes, could you please make a screencast?

thanks for trying; only happened the once; there must be code that unhides the icon; under what circumstances? I'll try...

The icon is shown when the app detects no internet connection and it starts searching the offline database.

OK, that's my experience; but it appears to me the "connection" test is only made when the search panel is opened; if the internet connection subsequently works, the icon should then be hidden right?

wifi/ data disabled > do Search - icon visible > enable wifi or data > icon still visible

you can't reproduce?

tap Back from search > search (again) > icon hidden

The icon is hidden when you start a new search, you don't have to leave the search screen. The app checks the connection, finds out it is online, and hides the icon. Is that a problem? See the video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qS4fZvMaDAlFiQuiPiiFF0LRVHi38WuU/view?usp=sharing

Thanks Michal for the video. You can see in your own video when you enable wifi then return to Locus that the icon is not hidden; that is my point. You had to start a new search, as you say. The user enables wifi, and is waiting for the icon to be hidden, but nothing happens. It's a small point, but I still think could be improved.

By the way, off topic, but it's similar behavior with the battery saving warning when you start track recording. It's an excellent warning, but if you then disable battery saving, return to Locus, the warning should be hidden, but it's not, so confusing. If you cancel track recording then start, only then is the warning hidden.

Funny - Google wouldn't play the video, even though you can pan along, and see snapshots. I had to download & play offline.

I've checked this with the devs. The icon doesn't indicate the connection status but the status of the search results. When the results are searched offline, there's the offline icon. When they are searched online, there's nothing.

OK, thanks. Finally understood. So the below message, and one in my original that was lost, is misleading. It should say the search results are from an online or offline source, not the connection status. This was my confusion.
