Coordinates sent to Locus end up in the wrong Locus function

Michael Bechtold shared this problem 9 years ago
Solved

If I mark geo coordinates in a mail or other source, I can 'send' them. Luckily to Locus, too. So far so good.

BUT the coordinates end up in the search function ("Address & Place") rather than the "Move to" function. If you are not online, you are stuck.

Good day Michael,

may you please send me sample email with such coordinates to locus@asamm.com email? I'll check it, thanks.

Ah thanks for email. I was asking for an email because I thought, you have some html link you click on, and Locus opens, etc ..

But you wrote me

  1. Here is a coordinate example.
  2. N 50°00.992' , E 14°26.406'
  3. The key is to mark the coordinates with an app that allows to SEND the marked text. Gmail app does not, BTW.
  4. Then send it to Locus, that obviously is registered in Android to receive messages.
  5. And then Locus puts in into the search field in the search task.

So you wants to simply long click on this text, select coordinates and tap on some "Share" button? Hmm, which app should I use for this purpose, because I use only GMail app.

Anyway I'm sure this is not an issue in Locus, not even in your email client. This is just how things works. Anyway I will try it and maybe I may do a small "hack" to make it work also in Locus.

Hi Menion, I have Galaxy Note, and it has the Gmail and a second Mail app, latter I use.

I just played around and found another App that serves the purpose: Notes. As you say, it's all about the "sending/sharing" the coordinates text. And Locus does appear in the list of pot. receivers.

I do not know if the SENDER defines which action the RECEIVER should take ? Or is this a choice the RECEIVING app makes ?

Oki, I'm still unable to simulate it because I do not know exact name of app downloadable from Google Play and no exact step by step instructions. Anyway I probably know where should be a problem. So small modification done and we will see in next version.

the same problem occurs if you for example add coordinates to some event in calendar and click it (not in edit mode). You can easily apply the same solution here.

Hello,

tested: created event in Google calendar, added location thanks to name of city. Saved. Tapped on even in calendar, tapped on location, opened in Locus and Locus after start offer search of address received from calendar app. So from my point of view, no problem.

If something different happen to you, I'll need some video or more screenshots, so I may see what exactly happen differently to you compare to me. Thanks

Hey Menion,

first of all I would like to thank you for your great job concerning the most powerful tool for outdoor navigation.

The point Michael Bechtold and aaa mean is that locus started by clicking coordinates from a calender entry or anything else should not start with the search field. It should only show the point in the map. Afterwards one could search for possible adresses or start navigation, projection and so on. In an earlier version, I could save coordinates to calender entries an by clicking them and choosing locus, I have been able to see them directly on the map. Now we always have to search for an adress. But that is not the standard operation we want to do.

Is it possible that locus start with showing the coordinates in the map before starting the search environment? That would be very nice.

Best regards

Ronald

Hello Roland,

as I wrote, I need precise description together with link to app that allows to simulate this problem. And I still do not have it ...

For instance, I use Business Calender 2 from Google Play Store.

I make a new entry in the calender, for example a birthday party or in this case a "Vogelwanderung" (a walk watching birds) on thursday evening.

As location I put in 50.184843, 8.750625

When I click on the coordinates after saving the entry and reopen it, my smartphone asks me with which app I would like to open the coordinates. In this case I would prefer to see the location directly on the map, but in my case locus opens the search field to search for adresses or anything else.

Maybe the screenshot can help to understand my problem.

Screenshot 2: Smartphone asking for the app which should be opened.

Screenshot 3: Locus opens the search environment. But I would prefer to see the location on the map.

Oki thanks, I was able to simulate this problem. So it should work as expected in next Locus version.

Thank you very much for your uncomplicated way of solving problems.

Your App is just the best one on the world for doing outdoor activities.

I love it.

I´m looking forward for the next update hopefully fixes this problem.

Best regards

Ronald
